  • Tony's transfer talk

TF: “I’ll have dinner with Harry today, he’s meeting [Chief executive] Phil [Beard] in the next few days and we’ll get a move on.

Harry and Phil have been doing some work with the scouts — we’ve got a good scouting system. It is Harry’s call, but I’ve been talking about young players.”

Phil Beard is saying that a board meeting is planned with Harry for tomorrow. Any media transfer talk appearing before then is pure speculation.

Meanwhile Redknapp takes a different view to Fernandes, as expected:

"We won’t sign anybody I don’t want, no way, I’ll only sign players I know. I like to sign players I know. The ones I’ve brought here I knew – you know what you’re going to get. You can never be 100% sure about players but I’d rather take people I know who will come in and do a job for you.

We’re going to have to look around quickly and see where we can find the right type of players. You don’t want to be taking gambles.

Being in the Premier League and going to places like Anfield is what it’s all about. But you need a team to do it. You don’t want a team that’s going to get smashed up every week.”

Harry Redknapp is set to tell Tony Fernandes he is unwilling to change his transfer policy following QPR's promotion to the Premier League.

Sounds positive, reckon we will see some activity over the next week or two with at least one deal being announced.

I think he should spell out young to Harry.

He thinks anyone under 45 is young so I hope Tony puts him straight and like last year refuses to give him funds if he asks for Bridge type players again.

The only young player harry knows is Townsend who i'd take but you could get harrys list of young players on the back of a stamp
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

young players like Ferdinand, Lampard & Parker?

Hopefully more like Townsend, Morrison and Carroll although I realise the latter 2 are unlikely given that they are p***ed off at not playing in the Play Off final.

I wouldn't mind QPR trying to sign players like Caulker and Redmond, perhaps on a year long loan along with some other loanees from abroad much in the same way that Everton did. I am not sure what the EPL's rules are on loans, but 3 or 4 with 3 or 4 more on permanent deals before the season kick-off would be good.

I would like QPR to retain much of the promotion winning squad, including Green, Simpson, Onouha, Dunne, Hill (player coach),Yun, Barton, Traore, Faurlin, Phillips, Austin, Hoilett, Zamora & Henry. This isn't a big squad, so QPR might either need to sign some more players, give new contracts to players like O'Neil Benayoun and sign Krancjar or give the youth players like Ehmer, Donaldson, Petrasso and Sutherland a chance.

To be fair, he does know quite a few young players from spurs. Townsend, Caulker, Naughton, Carroll, Kane. I would take all of them. Not that young but what about Sigurdson?! Quality player, I think Harry brought him to spurs as well.

Quite disappointed by Harry's comments. Looks like he wants an easy life getting players in that he knows to do a job. This hints at players past there peak which we all saw how that turned out last time.

I always thought that being a manager or coach is about improving talent and building a 'team'. It's probably the reason he seems to stay clear of our youth and fringe players.

Good point. Sigurdson is a good suggestion. He can make it at QPR,IMO. But, anyway, give HR a chance this time. It seems like his knee is sorted for the pre-season.

This is Harry's chance to show what he can do with his own players, let's see what the squad looks like at 11pm on deadline day.

Don't forget he had one shot to take us back up... he did it!

Yes, but if it comes down to it, Fernandes might need to take drastic action and tell Redknapp that he is against signing ageing players on big wages, If Redknapp wants the likes of Lampard Ferdinand Parker they will only be offered £25-30k per week with bonuses for keeping the club up.

Also Fernandes might need to make it perfectly clear that a relegation battle is likely to cost Redknapp his job (not that it will matter much as it his contract is in its final year anyway.

I doubt that Redknapp really knows many young players now. He was at Spurs for 3 or 4 seasons and 2 at QPR so, really he is thinking of the likes of Townsend, Kane, Caulker and maybe Carroll and Morrison, the latter will not be interested now that they missed out on the play off final.

I hope all our business is done long before deadline day Myu. Could do with the squad being in place by the start of preseason, that would be the ideal scenario but could be difficult.

Perhaps Harry is just pointing out that he doesn't want to repeat the tricks of previous managers in signing players he either knows nothing about, or doesn't feel that they would fit in to what he is trying to build. Could do without players with issues like Diakite, or ones that are foisted upon him like the Brazillian lad.

Plus of course, what he actually said and what he has been reported as saying, could well be very different things.

Can't believe I keep defending him all of a sudden. Must be this condition I've developed since Saturday which is still causing me to smile spontaneously.
