  • What an opportunity!!!!

Starting to come back down to earth now after such a amazing day on Saturday.

We now have such a opportunity to transform our club and rectify previous years mistakes. Been listening to neil warnock on talk sport this morning and hes talking a lot of sense. The players who still have a contract at the club are the ones we want to kepp ie austin, simpson, onohua, dunne, hill, yun, barton, phillips. There is a really decent spine there and if we can add the right mix of experinec and youth/quality we will have a decent team next year.

The other 20 odd players who are out of contract or going back to parent clubs offer us the chance to move on the ones who have bled us dry or just are too old and injury prone.
Our heads have to over think our hearts ie players like Zamora who are rumoured to be on anything from 50 - 70 k a week and have hardly played. We just cant keep this up.Again Kranjar another great player on his day but do we keep paying him a wage when hes still quite injury prone when we can go and re invest in youth on lower salary? Kevin doyle yes he grafted but we need quality and younger players!

If you think we only need 4 or 5 players this season I think a lot of people need to open their eyes and realize there's a big rebuilding project at QPR this Summer. To me the exciting thing is this time is if we get it right and buy the right sort of player and shop around for the best of the championship and offer sensible salaries and decent length deals to young up and coming players we wont be in this position again. Come the next set of transfers after this summer one we will only need to add one or two here and there.

Seeing the likes of rio linked scared me at first but in perspective if rio iss added and hes one of 8 or 9 new players of which two are over 30 then its not as bad as I first thought. The lad offers experience and we still need that mix. As long as we are picking up talents like mcarthur, hughes or a lansbury for example we will have a F****** great chance.

There is a big job to be done. However at the same time we need to keep the soul of this side alive, you bring in one or two of the wrong sort and you're in trouble. I think too much down the foreign route is one way to destroy this togetherness, not against one or two but at the end of the day our squad is pretty much a UK/Irish squad and we should build on that, keep that bond. Like you said the majority of our business should be looking into very good young players from the championship. Good young British players are not cheap as we've seen with Austin and Phillips but I'd rather spend £3-4m on players like that than getting players like Rio on a free and paying him 100k+ per week for half arsed performances.

Spot on mate, we must not go down the foreign route. The squad must have a majority of british/ irish players imo sprinkled with a bit of quality. I think we can keep the soul of the club. We have and should retain about 12 of this years squad for next year. Unfortunately I just think its inevitable that some of the players who have chipped in this year will have to be moved on because they are just either too old, too injury prone or just not good enough for the prem. Ie zamora, kranjar, benaryou, jenas, carroll, doyle.....

The thought of Joe Cole or Rio Ferdinand coming feels me with dread. Please, please, lets start learning our lesson and go for young hungry players

I honesty dont think we will go down this route again but dont think we should panic if one or two players like this turn up. I trust harry more than hughes to be a better judge of character. As long as the majority of our acquisitions are for the future we will do ok.

I wouldn't mind joe cole and lampard on 1 year deals on sensible money, after all this season is about surviving and they certainly can do a job for us. Look at what Hill and Dunne achieved for us.
              They are freebies as well.

One bad egg can make the whole lot go rot. It's vital to not bring in/back the bad eggs.

Rio is 35 already and has a recurrent back problem. That being said he is a class act and a natural leader. Almost nothing can change that. I don't mind seeing him playing for QPR. He probably has 1 season left in him.

You make good points, but then concern me suggesting Rio would be ok...! He'd probably command as big a wage as any of them and has barely played for a couple of years because of a knackered back.

I don't think he'll get too many oldies in, although does like an experience mix. I think if Lampard is released and wants another year in the prem Harry will try o get him. He's old but no denying still useful and could sit in with Joey and control the play as rarely wastes possession.

Also why on earth are people mentioning Barry....? If Everton can afford him he'll go there as settled in brilliantly. If they can't, then what hope have we got?

And Ashley Cole is still top top class, no matter what people think of him. He will get plenty of Champions League club offers.

Ferdinand, Cole and Lampard would be like Samba, Bosingwa and Park. A big no from me

Ferdinand is twice the player samba is even now at 35. Cole would still grace most prem clubs, hence why madrid and liverpool are in for him and lampard still scores goal. Nothing like them 3 whether they sign for us or not. All 3 are very good pros and i find the british mentality a lot different to foreigners.

Wages worry me but we have to dictate the outcomes this time. We must sit down as a club and have a top cap and contract length for the over 30's and if they dont want to comply we simply move on to someone else.

Seems to me like we would be making the same mistake for a third time.
                        When will we learn?
Of course it`s easy to get blurry eyed thinking of...Lampard-Cole-Ferdinand in a Hooped top...BUT!!!
1- They would demand massive wages (a club of our size simply can`t do it)
2- They hardly play for their clubs because they are VETERANS.
3- Injury prone, (we really know how to pick em ie AJ & BZ).

If we do get a transfer embargo placed on us how long would it last? A month / Year / 5 Years?
Who would still be playing then?
We surely have to go for a young squad with a bit of PREM experience and build for the future not just survival.
                        Only my opinion.
There have been some very good young players named on this site though.

To compare Cole to Bosingwa is quite simply laughable! Don't think I've ever witnessed Cole have a bad game in my life. Solid pro who's been the best LB in the world throughout his career. Yes he's a runt and believe me I despise the bloke but not a single person on this planet can question his footballing ability. And everyone saying please no over 30's, possibly 2 of our best players this year are Dunne and Hill, and that old codger who scored the winner on Saturday, what's his name again? Would defo give bobby a new deal on a much lower wage, he deserves it. Plus I'd keep dunne and hill as squad players Aswell. How many games have these 2 grandad splayed? Immense

                            A squad of

Green, Murphy, Simpson, Harriman, Onouha, Dunne, Hill, Caulker, Yun, LB, Barton, Faurlin, Henry, Sidwell, CM, Phillips, Traore, Hoilett, Townsend (!), Austin, Hooper, Zamora

                            Would be competitive for sure

Caulker would be 10million at least.
