  • Wembley pessimist

Firstly, I must point out I love rangers and I never go to games hoping we lose.

However, I'm excited about Saturday. Have tickets and can't wait to see us play at wembley BUT. And a big but, a big part of me feels we don't deserve to be there after the poor season, following high expectations, that we have had. Post wembley, post Saturdays match.. Do we actually deserve to go back up? Are we ready as a club? Do we have the squad to put up a fight? Or will we be back to the mass squad transformation of signing overpaid mercenaries and getting spanked week in week out?
I'm thinking beyond Saturday. I'm loving the occasion and i can't wait. But I can't help but feel another year in the championship. Another year of rebuilding with younger players in and older players out will put us on a firmer footing long term.

Unbelievable how someone can think another year in the Championship will put us in a better position long term!

The powers that be have learnt regarding players. This was clearly visible in the recent fans forum. Also the board haven't backed Harry to the hilt, January proved this when we spent nothing and also refusing to sanction the Wayne Bridge transfer in the summer.

Losing won't be the end of the world and we'll go again next season, however we will not be better off for it, the money on offer in the Premiership is now unbelievable and will only make our club stronger.

Too early to say they have learnt regarding players. You could say they had no choice this season as there is no money coming in but if we go up they could easily go out and make the same mistakes again.

I guess so, but I believe our current squad is far stronger than we've had since TF has been here and wouldn't need drastic work to survive in the Premiership. A lot of players will be leaving the club that are on big wages, some for half decent money too. Add that to the huge money in terms on being a Premiership club nowadays and we could bring in 6-7 players of good quality and cut our losses significantly.

Luke Young, Jenas, SWP, Mbia, Park, Hughes, O'Neil, Zamora, Benayoun, Green, Hill, AJ, Ephraim, Traore and Faurlin are all out of contract. The majority of them will be gone. Young, SWP, Mbia, Park and Zamora in particular are on big, big wages.

Throw in the highly likely sales of Diakite (£1m), Remy (£10m), Granero (£3m), and Taarabt (£5m) for a rough total of £19m then we're in a massively different financial position than a year ago.

If we go up and get the widely reported £120m and get fined £40m for breach of FFP (which is still a long way off) that will still leave us with around £100m in just income and transfer fees, never mind the weekly saving of wages from departing players.

Our financial position will actually be decent enough if we go up. If we don't then it's still not as bad as made out in the press. I fully believe the club has learnt from the mistakes it made but also that comes hand in hand with a hugely improved playing squad that we now have.

I don't care if we morally or in the sportsmanship sense deserve to go up.
I also don't care about the Premier League as some sort of a super-duper cool place.
What I do care about is the club's financial situation and that is why we must go up ASAP.
Banning people is no longer my hobby,
but take a look at my photo blog:

How and why did I start supporting QPR in Estonia:

At the beginig of the season I said I would prefer another season in the Championship, but there are two main reasons I have changed my mind and want us to go up now:

                1. We have learnt the lesson and this season signings proved so. All of the players above 30 we brought were on free transfer (Dunne, O'Neil, Henry), only paid for quality young players for future (Austin and Phillips) and got rid of most of the mecrenaries (without naming). Next season we will get rid of the remaining ones.

                2. We should go up in order to balance our books through the £120m awarded for the play offs winner. If we don't go up we could be in a worst financial position next season.

Sounds like where we went wrong last time. Wholesale changes, unsettled team, players dont know each other, lack of leadership. The proof will be in the first summer back in the prem. cannot assume anything has been learnt until they are in the same situation again and do it differently. Lets hope so!
