  • Newcastle close to getting marlon h...

coventry in for healy. i trust the great, great win in the valleys isn't going to convince the club they are fine up front. man city were without four first team strikers against man u, so even with one more striker we might well look v short up front come the closing stages of the season, particulary if helguson stays at that ##### encampment just up the M1.

yes,we definetly need a quality striker,i am surprised we arent in for Harewood or Healy.Loaning Helgs makes NO sense unless he is replaced,we are very short up front, despite sats win.

I'll be hugely dissapointed if we don't strengthen up top. Yes, Simpson scored twice and Vine played well, but we still need a goal scorer. If one of those two get injured, we're in trouble.

Thats the issue for me, if one of those get injured we need one. Problem is, you cannot bring in a player and say "your have to sit on the bench".

Touch wood nothing happens to these two ( Vine more like his old self on Saturday), but you'd only be able to get someone in, if one gets injured.

Striker, won't come to be on the bench. (if you get my drift)

agree but who in their right mind would tell that to a striker,

you sell him the club and tell him he's here to fight for his position and if he looks sharper in training than the likes of vine, then he starts, its not science, rocket!

problem here, once again is we win a game, score 2 goals in a game for the 1st time this season(league) and some now think we dont need a striker again!.Remember Vine has been poor up to yesterday and Simpson does not have a great scoring record,so I for one will not be fooled into thinking otherwise because of saturdays win.

So which one do we leave on the bench for a new striker if we got one in this week?

I for one would like some stability in the team now (injuries allowing)

Why does one need to st on the bench?

If they are good enough, they can be rotated. Not only that, but even when a striker is not started, it's always good to bring them on.

Logic would suggest that we will bring in another forward.

If he is available and could be tempted I'd still take a look at Kevin Phillips at Birmingham

But its pointless saying "cross fingers" - one of them is bound 2 get injured over a season. Plus vine isn't a scorer. And any team serious about promotion needs competition. If one win makes us go back on our plans 4 a striker I'd despair...
