CUT-PRICE OWLS
Sheffield Wednesday are doing their bit to help unemployed fans in the city.
The Owls are offering reduced price tickets to families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet.
Families on working tax credits will be eligible for £30 tickets (for two adults and two children), whilst individuals on the job seekers' allowance can watch home games for £10.
Chairman Lee Strafford revealed he wanted to help lighten the financial load for supporters.
He said: "We're well aware that unemployment has risen, which has increased pressure on families.
"We want to make sure that football fans who may not be able to afford to come to every match are at least able to watch the team on a regular basis."
The Owls' game against Nottingham Forest saw a good uptake on the special tickets, and the club plan to run the offer for the remainder of the season.
Communications Manager Colin Wood added: "We've had some positive feedback from fans. It's been very encouraging.
"Hopefully it will make a real difference to low income supporters in the City."

Sheffield Wednesday is pleased to announce the introduction of a new range of match ticket pricing for children, offering a wider range of concessionary rates for young fans.
The new pricing policy follows feedback from fans feeling financial pressures and follows the introduction of new ticket offers to families on Working Tax Credits and the unemployed.
Match tickets priced from just £3 per game for under-8s and £5 for under-11s will be available to child members from the Coventry City game on October 17 onwards. Child memberships cost just £15 and provide a variety of benefits to members on top of the option to purchase these new ticket categories.

Sheffield Wednesday is committed to offering a safe, family-friendly environment at Hillsborough, providing a range of options and prices to enable supporters to attend as many games as possible.
Sheffield Wednesday chairman, Lee Strafford, said: "While we always aim to provide ticket prices that suit as many people as possible, fans who could not commit to a season ticket have asked us to see if we can create extra concessionary rates for children and I am pleased that we have now been able to incorporate that into our child membership scheme.
"Membership in itself brings great value for money but for a mum and dad to bring a seven-year-old to a game for as little as £3 or a ten-year-old for £5 means that we are making it easier for many families to bring their children to Hillsborough more frequently.
"We will always look to develop our ticketing policy where possible to enable people to come and watch Sheffield Wednesday at home, so I am pleased that we have been able to confirm this new price range for some of our youngest fans."
Supporters should note these tickets are not available at the turnstiles and we encourage people to purchase online and print tickets at home where possible as this is the most cost effective option - tickets being £1 cheaper than when these are purchased via all other channels."
While the cheapest option offered by Sheffield Wednesday to reserve your seat at every home league game is to purchase a season ticket, we recognise that not everyone can afford this option and we believe our new pricing policy for children offers good value for money to access games without impacting on our loyal supporters who have invested in a season ticket.
