[풋볼리스트] 한준 기자= 지난 주말 잉글랜드 무대 데뷔골을 터트린 레프트백 윤석영(24, 퀸즈파크레인저스)의 팀 내 입지가 180도 달라졌다.

퀸즈파크레인저스(이하 QPR)는 지난 3일 윤석영의 활약 속에 반슬리와의 '2013/2014시즌 잉글리시챔피언십(2부)' 46라운드 최종전에서 3-2 승리를 거뒀다. 윤석영은 후반 23분 과감한 단독 돌파에 이은 왼발 슈팅으로 결승골을 터트렸다. 이 승리로 승점 80점을 확보한 QPR은 리그 4위로 승격 플레이오프에 진출했다.

윤석영은 반슬리전에 90분 풀타임을 소화하며 주전 자리를 꿰찼다. QPR은 이제 프리미어리그 복귀를 위해 위건애슬레틱과 오는 10일과 13일 승격 플레이오프 경기를 치른다. 위건을 꺾을 경우 브라이턴앤드호브앨비언과 더비카운티의 경기 승자와 승격 플레이오프 결승전을 통해 프리미어리그 승격 여부를 가린다.

올 시즌 QPR의 주전 레프트백으로 활약해온 브누아 아수에코토는 부상을 이유로 원 소속팀 토트넘홋스퍼로 조기 복귀했다. 해리 레드냅 감독은 윤석영을 레프트백의 첫 번째 옵션으로 고려하고 있다. 이변이 없는 한 위건전에 출격이 유력하다.

윤석영을 대하는 QPR의 자세도 달라졌다. 올 시즌 개막 당시만해도 전력 외 선수로 분류하며 벤치에도 앉지 못했던 윤석영은 단숨에 ‘이적 불가 선수’가 됐다. QPR 측은 “올 여름 윤석영을 이적시키지 않을 것”이라며 입장을 바꿨다. QPR은 전남드래곤즈에서 윤석영을 영입하면서 약 80만 파운드(약 14억원) 가량의 이적료를 투자한 것으로 알려졌다.

브라질월드컵 출전의 희망을 포기했던 윤석영은 8일로 예정된 최종 엔트리 합류 가능성도 상대적으로 높였다. 대표팀 코칭스태프는 지난 4월 유럽파 선수들을 점검했고, 윤석영 역시 그 대상에 있었다.

아직 윤석영의 대표팀 선발 여부는 미지수지만, QPR 측은 윤석영이 승격 플레이오프에 나서야 한다는 입장이다. 국가대표팀의 소집 예정일은 12일이다. 승격 플레이오프는 현지 시간으로 10일에 1차전, 13일에 2차전이 열린다. 승격 플레이오프 결승에 오를 경우 5월 24일에 경기를 치른다.

국제축구연맹(FIFA)은 대회 직전 각국 대표팀의 선수 조기 소집을 보장하고 있다. 대한축구협회가 원할 경우 윤석영의 조기 소집이 가능하다. 레드냅 감독의 외면을 받으며 국가 대표팀과 멀어졌던 윤석영은 소속팀과 대표팀에서 모두 찬밥 신세를 면하고 있다.
