  • What might have been.

Just found a Mail On Sunday dated 15th Dec last,a day after we won 2-0 at Blackpool and a week before our home loss to Leicester.

1.We were 20 games into the season and top of the league with 42 points,3 more than Leicester and only 2 losses.

2.We had the third best goal difference.

    3. We had 20 points more than Wigan who were in 15th in the league.

4.Even the Mail On Sunday reckoned Charlie Austin and Matty Phillips (who both scored that day) would prove to be our talismen and lead us to promotion.

5.How right they would have been.Losing both of those to injury, not to mention the others who were injured, has proved the turning point of our season.

What a shame - pass me a hanky.

Never mind, fingers and everything else crossed, lady luck might still smile on us.

I would also be quite interested to know how many points Derby got with Steve McClaren compared us after he left. It must be 15-20 points more.

Our major slip was in February after losing Austin:

            QPR 3-3 Burnley
            Derby 1-0 QPR
            QPR 1-3 Reading
            Charlton 1-0 QPR
            ===========
            One point from possible 12

We also had slip in December when we missed Austin for about ten days:

            QPR 0-1 Leicester (Austin played)
            Notts Forest 2-0 QPR
            Watford 0-0 QPR
            QPR fan since1987

Whilst appreciate the sentiment of your post mate, Austin and Phillips got injured against Bolton & Burnley respectively, which weren't until the very end of Jan / start Feb (although I think Austin missed 2 games over Christmas).

We were woeful over the Christmas period whilst Leicester were flying.

All through January we knew we needed a striker, even Stevie Wonder could see it. Even when we were flying high at the top after 20 games we weren't scoring anywhere near enough goals. Yet Harry only decided to address this on deadline day with 3 panic loans & some poxy Brazilian he had never even seen play.

We made a rod for our own back with out lack of transfer activity in this dept IMO.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

To be fair mate the Brazilian lad wasn't HR signing , the panic loan was Miaga from West ham at the last minute, because they thought up until a hour before the deadline they were getting that lad from Inter on loan, that was the panic loan

THAT squirrel, and we laughed at the time...ferked us
the ref delayed the game when qpr were doing well, had had many corners in succession and then that vermin went on the pitch and the ref dilly dallied!!!
maybe took some steam out of us, let them settle....
THEN ekotto fell over v burnley and faked injury cos he was so embarrassed...4 big pts dropped
DUNNE at burnley, we were 1-0 down and he was a few yards out and lumped it over, they broke and 2-0 we lost...big point slipped away, 5 extra to us?
we are where we are,cos after 45/46 games we were not 1st or 2nd best...just a team now in a lottery.

If we had beaten Burnley at home we would have been 6 points clear of them then. But then again if my Aunt had a pair of balls etc...

I thoroughly agree that we all knew what was needed and Redknapp didn't deal with the problem and has now left us to participate in the play-offs lottery, when we all knew that signing another goalscorer would in all probability meant a top 2 finish.

Derby, Reading, Charlton, Leeds, Brighton, Sheff Weds, Blackpool = 2/21 points. QPR wouldn't have won all of those, but probably picked up 14 points. They are 15 behind Burnley so the extra 12 points would have meant more to play for last week and maybe they would have done better at Blackburn & Bournemouth too meaning everything to play for tomorrow.

but what's done is done, so hopefully thay can make amends in the play-offs, however, Redknapp and the Board need to have a good discussion about what went wrong. Although I realise Redknaopp has previously pointed out that with 19 players going last summer he had to rebuild and no one expected promotion.
