This lads name has popped up many times when discussing transfer targets over the last year or two so no hindsight at all and certainly no told you so attitude. Good to see him coming good at the top level at last.

What a lot of fans want (this applies to all clubs) is often not the right way. Im of the belief that a core of young players with ability and something to prove is the way forward for a club like us.

Yep. Scored 1 in 37 PL games 3 weeks ago. Think he is well overrated. Half decent Championship player, but not much more IMO.

How many of those 37 appearances were starts as opposed to short cameos towards the end of a game??????

                Right.

I do think a few are writing him off far too early, his career has barely got going yet.

We shall see how he progresses.

That description could very well be for Ravel. And I know which I'd rather have.

I did rate Wickham at Ipswich, I think he went for big money (£8m ?) far too young and it went to his head a little. He did have a purple patch on arriving at Sheff Wed (8 in 10 or 11 games ?) much like Agyemang did for us a few seasons back.
Makes you wonder why Sheff Wed didn't keep him for longer, after all Sun'lan shipped him off to Leeds pretty smartish.
In hindsight, I'd have preferred him to either Maiga or Keane. But that assumes he would have come to us.

Op, could you revive the Wells, Hitchcock, Kane and Le Fondre threads please?

Say he had come to us and done well. We would be gutted by now because Poyet cancelled his loan to Wednesday and took him back to Sunderland - and this place would have been a basket case as a result

Stats are a wonderful thing but dot tell the full story. If we'd have snapped up Danny Ings in August keyboard pundits would've been spitting feathers - he played 32 games last season and scored 3 goals.

It doesn't mean he would have done well If he had joined us. It depends on team tactics. Sunderland are in a position to bring him back as they need to attack more to survive. You never know, Will Keane could have done better with another team (funny I know). Did Ravel Morrison do well with Birmingham? Did Andros Townsend do well before joining us on loan last season?
