To divert for a minute from all the ways we have not measured up to expectations this season, here are my "top 5" stand-out performers so far this season:
(1) Charlie Austin -- has done everything we expected, and then some, but his fast recovery from a season-threatening injury should hearten every football fan who wants players who play all out for the love of the game
(2) Clint Hill -- clearly the conscience and class of this team, and a player still performing well beyond his years
(3) Joey Barton -- say what you will about his spontaneous outburst of provocation, but he's arguably been the best all-around performer from Day One -- can't imagine where we'd be without him
(4) Ravel Morrison -- most skilled player on the field today AND the most exciting -- wish he could coach a clinic on what it means to make the game fun again
(5) Bobby Zamora -- not sure how he's able to overcome advancing age and injury, and he's clearly not one of our best, but you know he's there in body and spirit every time he takes the field
