Fully support this idea.
The atmosphere at Palace is fantastic. Dinosaurs on here going on about how lame and girly Palace Ultras are only reveal their own insecurities. What exactly have any of you done about the atmosphere recently?
Few other points:
- We must have the worst chants in the entire league. It's been 20 years since we came up with a really good, unique chant (magic hat - seriously, what have we had since then?). Every one of our chants is a variant on a standard. We had the league's best player humiliating the opposition every week and the best we could come up with what 'Taarabt's too good for you' - a chant that only works when he was already playing well. Faurlin got a rehashed Furlong chant. One Jamie Mackie. One Joey Barton. Zzzzzz.
- The divisions in the fanbase caused by Paladini and this forum. Big part of the petty stuff between the various groups of singers that still persists today.
- The tetris singing yoof mob types from the mid-00s mostly got banned, or at least broken up. A lot of those guys were total tools (feel free to tell the police who killed that Villa steward and I might change my views) but they were great for atmosphere.
- note the difference a half decent drummer makes. The guy at Palace can keep a steady rhythm and knows when to let the singers lead and when to start pounding again. The drummer in Q block (not Pete, more recently) is awful, just randomly bashes the drum on each note of the chant rather than keeping a rhythm. And he also speeds our chants up too much.
- We always chant way, way too fast. It's one of the reasons why we never - ever - keep a chant going for more than 30 seconds these days. Even HR's blue army dies off pretty soon. Is everyone in R block really on that much coke?
Remember that "Carrick not Scholes" chant; "the Burnley"; "hymns and arias" by Swansea. All those sorts of chants go on for ages. What is our equivalent? A 30 second runthrough of a standard followed by "come on your Rs" twice and then silence?

Some of our fans need to understand it aint the same as a season ticket home game where you sit down for the full 90 and don't sing.
Away games are for standing up, banter and singing.. don't sit down and be fvcking boring

Don't need any Ultras or that sort of nonsense
All the majority of the fans want is a team giving there all and to have some sort of bond with the players
It no coincidence that one of the better atmospheres at home was Wigan where the performance was real grit and determination.
As for Away games its only become fashionable on the last 3 years or so to stand up at games so I don't think that makes a difference to the atmosphere or anythingWe Are The People.....

Standing up makes no difference to the atmosphere you can still make noise sitting down ( my personal preference is to stand ) , atmosphere comes from what is happening on the pitch more than anything else
As for the amount of away games I have done I probably done more away games in my lifetime than you have home and away combined fella so stop trying to make out your some sort of superfan because you went to Blackburn last week !We Are The People.....

Anyway.. I disagree with the word 'fashionable' in this argument. You say 'used to' but realistically grounds haven't been all seaters for very long have they? So the period of people standing at the back and people sitting at the front hasn't been for very long..
Standing DOES make a difference to the atmosphere IMO. The support from fans sitting down always seems to be half-hearted for whatever reason, not to mention it just doesn't feel right creating an atmosphere sitting down behind the goal..
Standing up behind the goal at away games has always and will always be done..
Atmosphere coming from the pitch isn't necessarily true, it plays a part in it sometimes but sometimes games are so dull it un-real but the neighbouring home fans at an away game can keep you entertained. So please take my opinion on board before you decide to go off on one...

Best atmosphere in the last 10/15 years was under Holloway and the majority of the time when we went away Rangersfans sat down with a few who stood up at the back , the atmosphere was decent so standing up or sitting down didn't really make a difference
It was more to do with the fact we had a manager and a side who actually cared about the club and the fans recognised thatWe Are The People.....

Right now we're a pish poor copy of Highbury-era Arsenal. I know which one I'd rather.
Everyone in the PL is saying how great the atmosphere at Selhurst is this season; no one said that about Loftus Road over the past two years, with the exception of maybe six games in totl.

And I'm pretty sure the guys willing to risk looking like idiots for the sake of improving the atmosphere at the footy are considerably more secure than the people laughing at them for their choice of jacket. But maybe we have different definitions of 'secure' (it's not the same thing as hard or tough).

Is this a serious debate? Every football fan I know take the p!ss out of these "ultras"
And I know for a fact there not well liked amongst the older palace lot either. Any group of fans who organise an escort from there own pub to there own ground is a clown.
In my opinion an atmosphere is something that happens organically not this forced imported ultra sh!t

Right, so let's not do anything because a self-appointed "older lot" don't think it's cool.
Sounds to me like a bunch of old men whose best days were in the 80s are a bit annoyed they don't get to lead the singing anymore.
The Palace stuff *is* organic. Those kids are fans too. And there's a reason they + Celtic ultras + others have grown so fast: because many fans of these clubs enjoy what they do and want to join in.
I couldn't care less if their hooligan credentials don't check out. They're there to make noise not beat up Danny Dyer.

I remember a lot of the dinosaurs on here laughing at the "***" depeche mode song when it first started doing the rounds. Then we started singing it for SWP and everyone realised it was quite fun. Same presumably also goes for that Pet Shop Boys song we sing every week.
We'll come round to this, too.
As a fanbase, we're just horribly conservative and unoriginal.
