This is a good point, have to agree. And it was Dunne that was constantly being run ragged by McClean. His legs have clearly gone. But that was the only part of his game last night that suffered, in the air and on the ball he was a beast.

We might of been caught out for pace a few times at the back but we also kept a clean sheet. Had yun started we might have conceded, who knows...

The same thing for Benayawn I don't rate the player but he's scored 2 vital goals in the last 2 games. Had he not played who knows...

All this "HR has lost the plot over team selection" b0ll0cks is a joke. How about a thread titled "HRs team selection gets another 3 points"...

...why not wait until the final whistle before writing your own team off????

People will always debate before the game, that is one of the reasons for a forum.

That is true matey. Sorry for the little rant, the middle/last bit wasn't directed at you. But it does make me laugh how some can bet against there own team before a balls even been kicked.... but like you say its those kind of reasons why the forums set up.

If we get to Wembley in the play off final, will Hill at left back be able to handle a pacey player in the wide open spaces of Wembley, I think not I would prefer him at centre back, I'm not doubting him as a player I just feel he could get exposed at left back, at Wembley I would have Onuoha with either Dunne or Hill, I feel we would struggle with Dunne and Hill together for the same reasons.

Agree, Onuoha is our number 1 centre back for sure, the guy is a beast, and a very very good defender.
But that doesnt change the fact that last night HR's team selection worked.

And we will be in many games throughout the season. Still never changed the result though did it. Could go back to the Leicester game and say we pretty much dominated the whole game from start to finish. Had almost 20 chances at goal, opposed to their 2, but they still came away with all 3 points. It's like saying if your sister had a togger she'd be your brother (not directed at you, just a figure of speech). All IF's. HR can only put out a team that he believes will beat the opposition. He did that last night and we won, so what more is he supposed to do? The same folk on here do nothing but post things constantly having a pop, win, lose or draw. They'll all be back when if and when we don't get a result in another game this season. Fact is we're dammed if we do, or dammed if we don't in some peoples eyes. Stones, glasshouses and all that. It's a forum which is there for a debate. Some don't debate, but use it to do nothing but be critical about the team, even before a ball is kicked. Prime example last night.

What's that now 4 wins in 5 with his clueless selections? Oh and are Wigan not in the top six, plus also deemed to be the team arriving like a steam train, overtaking us, cutting down Burnley and pretty much stealing the title off Leicester? Still, some would rather remind us how Hill is going to get slaughtered every week, despite being one of the most consistent performers we've had for the last few years. Not only that but if you have seen Yun's performances at 'Boro and Wednesday (where he was our best player both times IMO) he has little experience of this division other than a sensible half season loan to Donny - and impressed more going forward than back. Maybe, just maybe, the gaffer decided he wanted a wise old head for last night given the fact Wigan really should be competing in the Champions league final according to some.
Still, I still find it is wiser to keep ones powder dry on sensitive issues like this rather than sit at a computer ten minutes before kick off and have a rant

Hitman, bushlover, kirill, stanistheman etc etc etc. All very conspicuous in their absence. Probably still trying to dry their laptops out after crying over them for 90 minutes watching the stream.

Again Clint hasn't let us down in four years. And, in spite of your pre match moaning, he was the outfield MOTM last night. And you'd replace him in a play off final with an unknown who's started twice for us?? Jog on mate. And, for the record, I'd play Climt CB everytime. Oh and while I like the chief he's made more howlers at CB than Clint and probably Dunne. Watch Weds second will you? Clint has been done like that once in four years by Suarez. Not by Leon f ticking Best. Sigh.

Good battling performance last night from the lads.. Its more or less what we all have wanted a battling performance.

The ball still went backwards and sideways a bit too much but all in all a massive shift put in by everyone. Back 4 was class.. Solid and experienced.
Thought Hughes had his best game for us.. Ned has to be our 1st choice centre back and works well with Dunne because of the legs he has and Dunne doesn't have.
I'd keep Hill at left back, if he has the legs for it.

Its hard to say whether the team selection was bad because we won and everyone played well so you would have to say, no it wasn't bad.
However I was gutted Yun didn't start and questioned it. I would of brought him on for Kranjcar not O'Neil as well but all in all cant really complain, was a great game to watch!

I'm 100% behind the lads going in to the final set of games. I'm not really behind HR cos im not a fan but I will back the lads to the hills!!

Hill should be alright at LB if we get there, as people have pointed out in other threads Wembley is only a bit bigger than the pitch at HQ.
My old man was the star player for HMP Parkhurst during their successful and unbeaten 77/78 season.
