  • A strange way to build for the future

Harry has brought in 17 players this season.
For me there is no way he was trying to bring our club forward or building for the future if you read the list.
For me it is the youngest players he bought who have been the best.
Dunne has done well but now his legs are gone, with 2 game each week.
Somehow Harry als forgot we have a development team

    Look for another rebuilding season

    Signed players

Aaron Hughes 35, Richard Dunne 34, Javier Chevanton 34, Yossi Benayoun 34, Oguchi Onyewu 32, Karl Henry 31, Gary O'Neil 30, Danny Simpson 27, Charlie Austin 24, Matthew Phillips 23

    Loans

Benoit Assou-Ekotto 30, Niko Kranjcar 30, Kevin Doyle 30, Modibo Maiga 26, Thomas Carroll 21, William Keane 21, Ravel Morrison 21

So that's ten who are 30 or over and seven who are in their 20s. Quality aside, arguably that's a reasonable balance of youth and experience....

Clearly the only plan was promotion by any means & hope for the best. Same next season if achieved. Long term hopes, short term plans.

Hughs saw to that , that we had to do a salvage job 1st ie get the big earners out the , then shop cut price and try to gain promotion at the same time .
piece of plss isn't it some brains on this board !

he signed players he thought would have enough about them to win promotion and then buy a 10 new players to add to the squad for the Premiership.

Unfortunately, injuries to Austin and Phillips has practically ended hopes of promotion, but up until and after the Burnley game QPR were in 2nd place and then the loss of those two saw QPR go 1-0 down at Derby with very little hope of getting back into the match. Since then it has mostly been downhill.

The problem is, many of us forsaw this happening and asked for strikers to be signed back in August or even during the loan window from Sept to Dec. Instead Redknapp waited until Austin was injured long term and then signed 4 strikers on deadline day. Doyle is ok, but the other 3 smacked of utter desperation.

I would like to point out that it is not just Austin getting injured - it is also the defense going bad
Last 9 games since Austins injury 2W-2D-5L goals scored 10 against 13
The 9 games before Ausin permanent injury 5W-2D-2L goals scored 11 against 6
So we are scoring almost the same but defense is leaking

I think this season was just 1 big shot at getting out, hence all the loans.. In TFs thinking I think he has thought, we will give it one big go this year and if it doesn't happen, build a young team for next season. He isn't tied down to these loans, which is one good thing. He signed a few younger players in Austin, Phillips, Simpson.

I however would of rather he just built a young team this season rather than giving it one massive shot and chucking a load of loans together

True, but if he had gone straight for a young team this year rather than going for it, and it didn't work out and saw ourselves in the bottom 3 then there really would be something to moan about.
