As for some people being wowed by a few pictures and tweets, don't you think the Mayor, or the council, or the GLA, or our partners in the project, wouldn't be issuing law suits if these plans were all nonsense?

Can I suggest you do some research into the subject to see the many statements that have been issued by a number of organisations involved in the project? You might see it's more than just a few drawings and tweets.
Yes, it is being built for concerts. Think about the economics of it:

40k concert fans several nights a week vs ~30k QPR every fortnight.

The O2 made more money than any other venue in the world last year (possibly 2012, whatever). The potential stadium here could host the same sort of gigs but would have better transport links to London and especially the rest of the country. Once HS2 is built it'll be an hour to Manchester and under an hour to Birmingham.

The people being wowed aren't the council etc. I'm referring to our fans, especially those on here (people on other forums tend to be more sceptical; that's presumably a legacy of this place being founded as a vehicle for FreeSeatPete's "rumours"/leaks).

    Statements don't equal contracts.

Like I said in an earlier post hit man, I don't for one minute think things are rosy. I was merely pointing out, to someone who came across as particularly arrogant in the manner, that the figures they were happy to quote weren't the full picture.
Maybe you And gunk could get a two for one deal in a night class on reading and absorbing information
We're a football club, we measure ourselves against other football clubs, not least because we'll be competing with them for players and thus success.

All clubs file accounts, because they're required to by law.

We don't include "but we'll get 8m for Remy and we just signed a new deal with Nike" in our accounts because that's not how it works, and neither does anyone else.

Compared to other clubs with similar outgoings, we have far and away less assets. Compare the 3.5 sellable players I mentioned to what Everton, say, could get if they decided to sell their players. Or even Dortmund (lol). Ok LR is worth more than most other grounds purely because of location, but then what? It's not like we can afford to move next door as funnily enough that's also more expensive than a square mile of Stanley Park.

      • [QUOTE=Geng;1234477]Well Samba came and went within the same financial year so he shouldn't make much difference.Something very dodgy about that deal anyway, who knows who actually made any money there.

We're paying Granero too much for him to be sold for a fee, esp since he'll only be back from injury this summer.

Gotta add in parachute payments too. Forget how much but will be a lot[/QUOTE

Did samba come and go in the same financial year ?
I thought we bought him in march and sold him in July, must have got that wrong

I'm not saying it's not going to host concerts, I've always understood it to be the case that the new stadium will be multi-purpose, it's a revenue earner, but you're making it out to be a One Direction gig hall.

I really would ask you to do your research into the whole scheme so you understand the bigger picture and the organisations who are involved in it.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Here we go again. I never said the accounts weren't accurate. The point i Wanted to make was that there is a bigger picture which would have some bearing On those figures, something you were happy to ignore to inflate your point. To be honest I wouldn't have bothered getting involved in the thread but the tone of your posts got my back up and i couldn't help taking the opportunity to point out a few inaccuracies on your part.
I'll say no more now, it could be a long night otherwise

                • Well we all knew the new stadium wouldn't be for football, but in fact hosting music venues etc..

Maybe we can get Take That there, singing 'relight my fire' to Fernandes.

                  • Quite a few of our 1st team are out of contract this summer, Granero, Diakite are two that are not, along with Remy who we know will go. Oh and i suppose butterfingers will still be here.
But Park,Mbia,AJ,Zamora, Faurlin, Traore, O'Neil, Jenas, Green, SWP, Benayoun, Hughes, Dunne, Young, Ephrain, Hill, now losing all of them apart from Clint for me says our wage bill bill will be a lot
smaller, and any new manager will have a fresh sheet of paper.......we need to make sure the next appointment is the right one.
What's that Hitman?.....yes i agree Neil Warnock would be a superb choice!!!

But QPR will be playing there and it'll be our home ground.
Fans against this stadium started off with complaining about the size (which was a fair argument). Now it's because it will be used to earn money when we're not playing....good idea make it pay for itself.
Not digging at you Olly, just using this post to put across a couple of points

I really don't understand this hostility to using the new stadium for non-QPR events. We'll use it what, max 25 times a year? What's it doing the other 340 days? As Dave says, let it earn some money to pay off some debts.

It's interesting you think the new stadium won't be used for football. Your words, remember. Where do you seriously believe we're going to play? Remain at LR? If that's the case, then why are you getting all worked up about the board building a non-football facility?

Your comment, 'we all knew' is interesting too. Many of us thought QPR was leaving LR to move to a new home. Now you're claiming on everyone's behalf that we all knew we wouldn't be getting a new home.

                          Richard and Dave,
I think you both misunderstood my post, I'm actually for a new stadium that can be used for other events as QPR can't survive on current home gates.
40,000 won't be open for matchdays, thats more for the concerts etc.
I did add some humour with Take That :-)

Fair comment. We simply have to increase revenue to compete if we want to play at the highest level. If it means hosting silly boy bands then so be it

Think swp would get another year based on reaching a certain amount of appearances and that is why we are hardly seeing him this season
