Because Redcrap didn't think we needed one, while even the man on the moon knew we were totally dependant on Austin staying fit and would be ****ed if we didn't bring in a decent replacement, old Redcrap knew better, now he is just making excuse after excuse to cover up his mistake

Voted tony. Oh and its clear you hate him rebel, but he deffo wanted another striker, and would of loved to spend some money if he could of. Im no fan of his, but its mad to let the hate cloud your judgment of the truth.

I wouldn't say Tony Kev . We didn't get out priorities straight as unbelivable as that sounds . The board were quite happy to sanction the signing of ntep and belfodil which indicates money was available for the right signing . We spent so much time chasing those two muppets

He spent ridiculous amounts of money on the wages of an ever increasing amount of aged, former players, which no doubt if he had reduced by only two, would comfortably have allowed him to fund another very good striker. The one position on the pitch where we needed it. I don't think I'm aware of a single fan that doesn't believe he is at fault for not sorting it out close season, let alone January, when it really mattered.

He's completely messed up. Should just have the good grace to walk away now with a very big "Sorry", to those that backed him all the way.

difficult... went for 'no one else was worth the money' but really wanted to have 'money available' instead of just 'money'. but it could easily be the board/no one willing to come for the deal offered.

it's not reasonable to expect the board to fling buckets of cash during every window - tbf to them, they have (including for phillips and austin last summer). we can't afford proven players in their prime, young up-and-coming players are always a risk, as are over-the-hill injury prone older players. plus strikers are never cheap.

on recruitment, we've got a reputation now and i think too many clubs and agents try to take the michael when asking us for fees and wages etc. which makes signing players more difficult, especially when we're trying to reduce operating losses. i guess that's why we've signed so many players on loans or short-term deals.

Think both transfer windows we aimed too high with no Plan B. We got lucky getting Austin and panic bought (loaned) in January. Should accept we are in the Championship and gone for players for that league whilst having hopeful punt or two on better. Poor planning.

So you and brighton think a man whos been in the game all of his entire life cant see what every single fan can see then, and he didnt want to buy another quality striker whom can actually score, and wanted to ruin his years of a good reputation by being shite in the championship for the biggest spending club in the history of the league by not buying a player in the one position vitally needed, and that means the difference between success and failure. Maybe he has got dementia, and we shoúld be getting him to a head hospital then eh?

To be fair, he stated that Zamora and Johnson would be very good players at this level. Two possibilities here in my opinion.
Firstly, he actually believed it, which makes him a poor manager for not getting anything out of them. Secondly, he didn't actually believe it and therefore he simply lied to us all. Having seen him bring in Doyle, Keane and Maiga, ( forgetting that Dellatore bloke as he was just a gamble or lined up to fail next season), it would appear that his judgement of strikers isn't one of his strong points.

                            I am mostly blaming Redknapp.

The FFP rules might also be partly to blame and may have influenced the Board into not spending more in August, but Redknapp released and sold a number of strikers in the summer and kept 2 who we all knew would not be fit to participate in many games this season (as they were under contract perhaps he was lumbered with them and decided to 'talk them up'), but why did he release Bothroyd? Bothroyd might have had a questionable attitude, but suely he would have been of more use.

Also, finances might have played a part of it, but why did he sign so many ageing midfielders, who surely earn a decent amount each week, that could hve been better spent on strikers.

Finally in January, couldn't he have signed better strikers than Keane & Dellatorre (the latter may be good, but when will we see him play)?

I can understand signing Doyle and think he was a good signing. and Maiga wouldn't have been my choice (Vaz Te would have been better), but Maiga can be a half decent striker if he gets enough games and motivation.

my big question is why wasn't Wickham signed instead?
