He was too good for us, he was looking to make passes that our players just couldn't read. Our lot at the time were stood static waiting for a ball to come to their feet rather than looking to make any sort of run forward. As soon as he left us went back to Real Madrid and played 5 La Liga games in the 2nd half of the season - can't have been too shabby.

The 2nd tier of English football just doesn't suit such players IMO. They're all fantastically gifted and technically good players that, given a bit of time and space, they'll pick off superb passes. But in the Championship it's all too hussle & bustle and in your face, they don't like it.

Not quite how I remember him. He might have improved since then, but just because a club is prepared to pay £20m for him, doesn't mean he's any good, just means football is insane.

And 6 years on, we do still tend to buy or loan players who are too leightweight for this division.

Or Benajoun? on a serious note, we dont know how good Carrol can turn out to be...
Personally, I would have played him behind the attacker(s).
