First of all, I would like to nip this in the bud once and for all about a Mittal takeover. Its a no go and anyone who thinks they will wave the magic wand if Flavio leaves, will be in for a shock.
I've seen stories in The Times today and on messageboards about giving the Mittals a "go at it". To be honest, they are more likely to leave than Flavio and it will be very hard to convince them to stay after the recent allegations, than suddenly to expect to take over the mantle. They have seen at first hand the fans responses when things don;t go well and to think they would want to be the main orchestratators of financing and running the club is way off the mark. When this venture was first sold to them, it was a positive thing and they could see the potential, but negative after negative story from price rises to the recent Flaviogate scandal, means they have taken more of a back seat in recent times. They would not want to be answering negative questions about the state of the club at this current time and the next 7-10 days will be harder to convince them to stay put, then to contrive a plan for a takeover. The latter just won;t happen. Flavio came in with the best intentions of making the place a success and The Mittals have seen at first hand, what happens when it goes wrong with fans and they don't gamble with business ventures in the same way Flavio would. No-one can take over a football club, demand or correctly predict success. What if, a year down the line we are in the same situation under new owners in the case of The Mittals, and they are getting booed and ridiculed in the press and global media, because results on the pitch are not going our way? They now know the risks involved and for that reason, they simply will not take-over whether we like it or not. The 20% stake is an indication of an interest only in the club and it would have been far easier to take full control before, 2 years down the line, it is simply not an attractive business proposition to take over a club mid-table in the championship and with the continual bad press it attracts. I like Amit alot, but its more likely to be a separate takeover than anyone currently at the club.
In regards to Bernie Ecclestone, being the main figurehead at F1 will make it very difficult to stay put at QPR in any capacity, if Monday;s meeting in Paris punishes Renault and bans Flavio from F1 for good, it will be regarded as a conflict of interest surely if he stays involved with Flavio at QPR. He has done alot more for the club, then people give him credit for, but he is even less likely to takeover the whole club than The Mittals, with his life being Formula One.
Where does that leave us and the club? I'm not altogether sure that Flavio is registered with the football league as Chairman, but lets for argument say he is. The football league would be hard pressed to sanction Flavio's involvement with the club, he has resigned from renualt and not been found guilty in a court of law. He might well be guilty, but the reality is even with the smallprint the Football League have, they will not be able to oust Flavio from his position within Queens Park Rangers football club.
Flavio, no doubt will go abroad for a week or two and assess, where he goes from here. He is a fighter and not got where he is today, by not being ruthless and determined in business. You, don;t have to like him, he is not here to make friends but the ultimate goal from the outset was to make the club successful, its all going wrong at the moment but I feel it won;t stop him. Whether, he can keep all the sponsors and co owners happy is an altogether different proposition, this is what eventually could lead to a separate takeover.
Whilst, many fans will ask for "our rangers back" the reality is that Flavio has probably ploughed more money into the club, then many have in recent years. That in my opinion, is the good thing that will come out of this all. Contrary to this club going to the wall, I think the future can only be positive for QPR, whatever happens in the coming weeks.
End of the day, if Flavio does sell and move on, he will not sell it a lost and that bodes well for us. It will mean a big backer will take over, simply because Flavio has ploughed in millions, any potential backers will have the money, not like recent times when they would promise funds, to be found out in that reality it was all fabrication or came with strings attached. The World of Flavio does mean, that if he decides enough is enough and wants to walk, he won't sell it on the cheap and I cannot imagine the return of the money buckets.
In my opinion whatever you think of Flavio and we could argue all day about what he has done, one thing for sure is that our current financial status and future would far less insecure if he hadn't taken over the club in the first place
