I keep reading that fans want Flavio to "give us our club back", but when did we the fans ever own it, or control it? And how would it work? Have you got the millions required to buy it back from Flavio, because I sure don't? And even if by some miracle we fans could buy it, how wd we take it forward? And just because we were back to being broke, would that somehow make us pure again, or are we now pretending that boardroom gun fights, drunken players killings themselves, brawls etc happened after the takeover? I too have a secret hope the Mittels might buy it and they might be slightly more sane, but does anyone have any firm indication that they would take us over and lead us to the promised land?
I'm not a defender of Flavio and have found some of his public utterances disgusting (eg his belief that somehow only rich people count), but I think some fans live in fantasy land. If you want to learn about a monster in football, read Tom Bower's biography of Mohamed Fayed, who owns Fulham and has done stuff that Flavio wouldn't even dream of (including, it is alleged, have people bumped off). Or the former dictator who owned Man City until recently. Or Abramovich with all the extraordinary deals that turned a Moscow market trader into one of the world's wealthiest men. Lower down the footballing food chain, the former chairman of Gillingham is apparently in prison for GBH.
I wish the fans did have more control and that clubs were seen as a central part of a community rather than just as loss making businesses or rich mens' vanity toys. But I'm also a fan saying to the board "come on chaps, buy Hooper, get a left back, lets splash out £2m on making Watson a permanent signing." We may want it all ways but we can't have it all ways.
Think we all need to calm down a bit. If we were top of the league there wouldn't be half this hysteria. But a combination of a p**s poor season, some dodgy decisions in the transfer market and a called off game has led to some laughable over-reaction.
Flavio hasn't even been given a chance at the hearing to defend himself yet -shouldn't we wait for that, or do we just hang him or flog him first and ask questions later? In other words, behave in precisely the hot headed manner which we often criticise him for doing. Blimey we are all grown up people on here, supposedly a bit more thoughtful than on most message boards - so plse, fellow Rs, get a grip plse...
