Started well with the likes of Simpson, Phillips and Austin though.

Everything Tony does off the pitch is brilliant and long term - the training centre, stadium plans etc - but everything on the pitch is short-term. If he was really trying to do a baby Man City he needed to buy a handful of players that other clubs actually wanted. Even Austin we only got because he had a dodgy medical. Most players we get are last knockings. Its purely my hunch but is TF a bit too nice? There were loads of reports saying that TF didn't want Benayoun because Tony thought he was too old. But as normal the manager got his way. He alone is probably on 20/30 grand a week. OK Naki Wells would have cost £1.5m to buy but he prob would have been delighted with 7/8 grand a week. Over a two year contract who works out more expensive? Especially when you factor in that hardly any of our players have a sell-on value.
TF did probably put his faith in HR´s man management regardless...QPR
