This squad is and was overrated.

The central defence is old & slow many of us knew and pointed this out in early August.
The same goes for the midfield, Where is the energy and drive going to come through. Only Faurlin and Carroll are under 27 and one got injured in Oct the other is not that good anyway.
Apart from Austin, the strikers are old, injury prone and hardly ever score.

These issues should have been addressed a long time ago before the January window and injuries occurred to Faurlin, Simpson, Austin & Phillips.

Injuries happen that's why clubs have squads.

We all foresaw that Zamora and Johnson would barely figure in the games this season or even score when they did (2 from AJ and 0 from BZ), yet Redknapp thought they would provide good support for Austin.

When Austin got injured, Redknapp panicked and signed Doyle (who I think is ok), Maiga who is not too bad, but needs a run of games and a couple of kids that will barely play. However, they will not all be of much use as they are on loan and only 5 loanees can be included for any one game. Given that Assou-Ekotto, Carroll, Krancjar and now Morrison are likely to be needed in the matchday squad it does't really leave much room for choosing the strikers and giving them a chance to make a telling contribution unless the tactics and formations are changed (not the right time to start this).

That's when the real mistake was made.
How many of us on this and other boards posted messages sating the bleeding obviopus that BZ and AJ would miss most of the season and contribute very little in terms of goals on their rare appearances. Many of us questioned the wisdom in offloading so many strikers without replacing them. keeping Campbell,Bothroyd and Mackie would have been a better option than the two that were kept on.
