Most of us, or even fans of other clubs don't like the way football matches are being re-arranged to meet broadcaster demands. We heard it here recently of a crystal palace fan saying he was sick of Saturday early and late, Sunday and Monday KO's. Work, social and travel arrangements etc. Next year this could be us all over again.
How would you feel if the situation changed and all normal weekend fixtures were Saturday 3pm only, no Friday, Sunday, Monday, no exceptions whatsoever? Without having it both ways, 'but I like watching other games on a Sunday', 'but I want to go to my game only on a Saturday'. We already have weekday evening cup games and replays so no problem with that. League cup, Eufa cup, internationals, Champions league. Isn't that enough? There's enough other games already from around the world, if that's what some here also want, or if they want that in their own countries that's their business.
Could you cope with just Saturday football for the long term good of the fans that go to games? I'm not really bothered about armchair fans. It's us goers who end up paying the most as supporters, rather than the stay at home £40 a month subscription takers. We can all adjust and get back to having a life outside football. Wives, children and girlfriends might support that too.
The next TV deal rights come up in 2015. The Premier league won't be listening to us per say as they only see the pound signs. There's no reason why 3pm games can't be shown by Sky, BT or whoever on a Saturday at 3pm. Do you honestly think gates at other matches would suffer that much that some clubs would be seriously affected? Because this is going to be their argument. We still have MOTD lol.
If the Prem league were approached now by fans who said we've had enough, and we want Saturday only football on the next TV deal, and they said no, are Sky, etc seriously going to stop televising our games? No chance, maybe slightly less money possibly.
I don't mind starting a national e-petition initially if there's any interest on this to raise it to major public awareness in Westminster. Football isn't politics as such but it'll be in the press. Quite easy to contact other forums. Would you be be prepared to be part of national strikes at Prem games next season? I can also start a website to organize it. Because this is the only way that would get results if there's any stalling.
Don't moan about it and do nothing. Be in or out.
Don't think it can't happen, if there's enough will, fan power can bring down football at any time.
Or do you want it as it is, with three months notice for game changes, to accommodate cheaper travel arrangements?
