  • Seems unbelievable

Following an earlier thread about the cost of going to football matches,I was looking through newspaper cutting archives when I found the following examples of match day ticket prices from days gone by.

1.1982 - The attendance at the FA Cup final (QPR v Spurs) was 100,0000 with gate receipts of £918,000 which equates to £9.18 per ticket average.

2.1967 - The attendance at the League Cup final (QPR v WBA) was 100,000 with gate receipts of £60,000 which equates to 60p (12 bob) per ticket average.

Even before my time (I started supporting the R's in 1951).

3.1932 - The attendance at White City Stadium for the FA Cup match (QPR v Leeds) was 42,000 with gate receipts of £2,300 which equates to,if my maths are correct, 5p (1 bob or a shilling) per ticket average, and everyone (man and boy) wore a cloth cap of some sort.

Excuse me while I get my coat and violin.

Thanks for that Hoop.It would appear that only the 1982 prices are anywhere near to relative and that's probably because they're the most recent of those examples given.

Theyre not really relative though because that was for a major cup final ( at a time when the FA cup was the most magical thing in the football world ) ,not a pedestrian league match . I remember getting in the Loft for about £1 .50 ( boys prices ) in 82 and i`m sure adults weren`t paying more than £3 then
