Joey has been the leader on the pitch all season. He wants the ball at all times and is always available he works his socks off and makes the team tick. I think that most underestimate his value to the team and we are a lot less effective without him. Poty so far by a mile!

I think it's because the majority of this forum actually don't go to any games, yet strongly believe what they see for 30 seconds on the box, via highlights etc empowers them. Not even going to waste my time answering this.

      POTY IMO!

An absolute **** of a man but given his due has played well this season

Clearly not good enough for the Premier League and too good for the Championship

Makes me laugh the people on here who get out of their pram when someone doesn't rant and rave about their hero.

In my original post I made it clear I wasn't having a dig at JB but in the games I had seen he hadn't really really impressed me. Yes he grafts and has seemingly improved attitude wise but I guess I expect more from someone who was being touted as an England player a while ago and who we are paying massive dough.

I thought football forums were for football debates

He's not a spectacular player and when he's focussed, keeps a clear head, he has something to offer.
Been pretty consistent this year. The red card was a bit harsh IMO.
Not quite sure what everyone expects. This guy's attitude and committment were in question, don't think they are now.
Also not sure why half the posts on this thread are about Carroll? I thought this was a Joey thread
yeah i dunno why either - threads gone a bit all over the place.
anyway i wanted barton back all last summer even when he was getting slated on here cos he was plainly far better than any of the cms of last year and hes proven that and been important and also the type of guy that was urgently required - hes like clint hill someone like that, got that right mentality, ideally you have most of your squad with that sort of attitude, it takes you a long way in the right direction, the lack of it takes you the opposite way as last season showed.

Sorry I disagree. I think he is good enough for the Premier League (maybe not outstanding), though playing in the Championship, it is hard to judge. Last season with Marseille, he did well in the Champions' League.

I'm wondering if you think this just how many games you've seen? because I think that most people who've seen most would think that Barton was MOM in probably 50-60% of our games?

Some of the passes Joey hits are sublime. Been absolutely fantastic for us so far.

Fair dues I must be wrong, judging by the reaction JB is really putting in performances this season.

Perhaps I expect too much from him.

Very good footballer, despicable human being. What's to debate?

contender for player to the season.. control's games as is being played in a more withdrawn role. sadly henry hasn't been the player harry had hoped and that has meant joey is being played as cover in midfield.

but is he worth the dough we are paying? i dont think so - but that in itself is a completely different question as we are paying him a large wedge each week.

He's played well in a rather poor championship. Noticeable when he's absent, team doesn't seem as complete.

Rather poor championship???? Best one ever isnt it? We were walking it a few seasons back and we less points than we do now.

It is a poor league, we have been in the top 3 all season without playing well, just dong enough to nick games. We played well in a handful of games and we have a poor return against the the teams around us, Leicester, Burnley and Forest. I point from a possible 12.

It is a poor league and with our squad, we should be 15 points clear and we're going to struggle to go up automatically.
