  • Joey Barton debate

Had a discussion with a West Ham pal at work today, he asked me how Barton had been playing and whether I was a fan of his or not.

Got to admit haven't been to many games this season but the times I have and the games I have seen on the box I haven't been overly impressed with him.

Yes he grafts, yes he puts in a shift blah blah blah but I cant remember too many times when I have seen him put his foot on the ball and pick out a pass or set up an attack.

This isn't a dig at him im just curious as to what people who go every week think of him.

Is he really worth the dough we are paying him.

Is he really any better than the Shaun Derry we had the year we got promoted, the Shaun Derry who used to dominate the midfield.

I thought we might see more goals from Joseph at this level but that hasn't quite happened . One thing I will say though is his attitude this season has been very good, when he's not in the side I think we suffer a bit so for that reason I think , this season at Least, he's more important to us than we think . That's my opinion anyway

        Surprised at this post...

Joey has been one of best players this season, full of graft, great attitude, real leadership on and off the pitch, imho

Hes been superb, player of the season. Bet any money he wins it. That pass on saturday with the outside of his foot was sublime. Sometimes i honestly wonder if the majority of this forum like one single thing about QPR.

I feel a lot more confident with him in the team. I think he does some great defensive work, I can remember a few times he's saved us this season. 1 particular moment is when Jordan Rhodes was about to pull the trigger 1on1 with green and Barton came out of nowhere with a last ditch challenge. Would like him to score more goals but none of midfielders like shooting for some reason. He's far from the complete midfielder but his passion and commitment this season has been great.

Was thinking this myself. It's the people that slate Carroll that kills me.

been great for us this season, not as important as Charlie but we missed him when he was out injured
I must away now, I can no longer tarry

Ok a few on this thread getting out of their pram for no reason.

I haven't had a pop at JB just wondered people's opinion of him, the games I have seen I haven't been majorly inpressed with him, his distribution isn't all that and yet a couple of years ago people were banding his name about for the national side.

I agree we miss him when he isn't there, I take that point.

Lynchpin of our team. Did you not see the pass to Holliet which helped set up the equalizer on Saturday? It's one example of many.

He's been very good this year, he appears to have found his level.

Fans seem much more forgiving of his misplaced passes than others in the squad.

He is about 10 times the player Jenas is. Dominated Our play in the second half against Burley. We have not yet found his ideal partner in midfield, IMO.

Like yourself I think Barton has played an integral role but cant be having Carroll mate he has flattered to deceive he brings nothing to the team

Shows what fans know however as he was voted man of the match by the fans against Bolton but the manager dropped him the following game for arguably our biggest game of the season which speaks volumes

Wasnt that to do partly with bringing in a million new players the night before and harry wanting to go for a different and more defensive formation ?

Bit harsh and a veiled dig. He will be one of our star players in the premiership as well if we make it. This aint his level, and he aint found it.
