  • Players out of contract this summer

I know this has probably been done before but using the forum via my phone so bit more difficult to through pages and pages of threads.

I have had a look around on various sites and the following list is who should be out of contract this summer with an estimation of what they are earning and the club will more than likely let go:

Luke Young - signed at the beginning of the TF era so i would go 30-35k

    Mbia - 40-50k

    Jenas - 30-40k

Swp - some reports here that he is out of contract this summer others that he has a year left. Hopefully the former. 50-60k a week.

    Park - 40-50k

    Ephraim - 10-15k

    Zamora - 45-55k

    Johnson 40-50k

So even with just that group off the wage bill the club will be looking at saving 250k per week minimum. It really is astonishing when you think how much a club our size is paying in wages.

The following is a list of those out of contract that i think the club will consider retaining:

Green - all depends on Cesar going though imo. Then again greeno is probably on 40-50k a week, can the club go out and get better for less?

    Dunne and Hill - experience

Traore - if he continues as he has started between now and the end of the season then there is a possibility.

Not sure If Hill and Dunne should stay considering they are getting older.

I think you need to be careful with your assumptions because a number of these players are out on loan so the clubs loaning them will be paying some or all of their wages....

Oh and I'm pretty sure HR said that Jenas was closer to 20k and not 30-40k.

you have to consider what the clubs transfer policy is going to be this summer. im sure it wont be sign every player left right and centre. someone like jenas or johnson, who will add depth cant just be thrown on the trash pile if we can bring in extra depth over the summer
i supported qpr in the glory days when chris kiwomya and michael ngonge played up front

Exactly. We need to look to strengthen the squad, not weaken it. Whatever division we find ourself in...

Two are out on loan but that will still represent a saving of at least 30% of their usual wage when they depart this summer. Would still be looking at upwards of 200k a week.

"whatever division we find ourself in" not sure continuing to pay the sort of wages most of those mentioned in the first list would be financially sustainable in the champs if we fail to win promotion. If we do go up then aj would be the only one from the first lot that i would possibly keep but on reduced terms. Lets face it, what other clubs are gonna offer them contracts amounting to anywhere near what we are paying them...

I think NortholtRangers list is about right, most of them will go as well as Barton and then there is Diakte and Mbia to sell off.

We could potentially be starting from scratch with a new team and manager next season if we don't go up

Therein lies the problem, lack of long term planning. We are gonna have to bite the bullet at some point, i would rather it be sooner than later and get rid of the players that are finished as professionals.

Id be surprised if Barton goes. Another player sitting pretty on a big contract but at least he puts the effort in. Think he will be around until that expires.

Diakite i hope we can shift, that will hinge massively on his time at Watford being a success though.

My point was, if the two out on loan are being paid 100% by the loan club then the saving has already been realised. It could have been used to fund Austin, Phillips and Dunne for example so we may not be saving anything this summer...

Mbia's contract is up in the summer so they'll be no fee for him...

Unfortunately long term planning has been missing for years, not just the last couple of seasons... Not saying it shouldn't be considered but the lure of the big time will likely be too much...

Even without those two we would probably be looking at upwards of 170k per week then. And to think the only one of that lot that gets game time is aj. Massive massive waste of money.

Let the clear out begin i say, bring it on.
