Burnley had only 3 shots on target and scored 3 - in a weird sort of way that fills me with confidence as I doubt that will happen again and we shouldn't panic about our defence

very close with 2 others though, just need to get points from our rivals and put the rest to the sword
I must away now, I can no longer tarry

Why would you anyway? Surely the pattern of the season suggests it isnt common for us to concede too many and three in one game will be a one off.

Leicester did much the same, Shots on target v Goals.

And equally that was only the 3rd time we've scored 3 all season.

Which is the whole point of my post for Christs sake - if burnley had 10 shots on target then maybe we should be a little concerned

I don't think our defence will have a harder examination than yesterday, we'll have the same against Leicester with Vardy doing the Ings role again but it won't be harder. As you say don't write off the defence yet

We need Onouha in the heart of the defence from now on. We should also have brought in a midfielder with speed AND physical presence. We are way to vulnerable when challenged on a counterattack,IMO.

But the average CC team will still regard Dunne and Hill as Our major weaknesses if they play it on the floor.

But they ain't got players like Ings or Vardy that can do anything about it

You're post is correct but slightly misleading also.

All well & good saying 3 on & 3 scored but Burnley very easily could of had at the very least 3 more goals in that game. First half on the stroke of half time Kightly straight through the middle only had to hit the target & he would of scored IMO. Missed.

Second half Ings turned the defender inside out in the box if he had shot he had a one on one but he tried to turn onto his natural foot & got blocked.

Last seconds keeper in no mans land, lobbed & ball trickled past the post. On another day we could easily have been punished.

Delighted with our defence this season but against the better strikers they will concede more & more. Long season, weary legs etc.

Next week we have to handle Grabban. But he is not as good them two you mentioned!! That´s right. Here´s hoping!!

Edit; I was wrong. Bamford and Martin ex. Norwich is quality.OUCH.

there was a combo of events that meant the team looked more vulnerable at the back but good going forwards.

The line up yesterday was very attacking, extremely attacking, 2 strikers, two wingers, and even CM had Kranjcar, and Ned came forward from RB, basically wide open.

So the domination of CM that you get with a 5 man midfield wasn't there, when the wingers went forward their were real gaps behind them, the defence had less cover from midfield.

Plus on the flanks there was Ned out of position, Traore's first start as a left winger, and Hoilett playing on the RW where he's usually on the left.

Plus first game missing the excellent and ever present Simpson and Charlie with a reshuffle caused by Phillips injury after 5 minutes and two strikers making their debut.

Plus Burnley are very good imo, deserve to be in the top 3, and particularly good strikers and very decent wing play too.

Little of this stuff will recur often this season.

Agreed. A very sensible post on the Whole. 4-5-1 in the next match it is then?

Think the team has only really played 442 or 433 this season. might have been one 352 cant remember for sure and its worth considering. But starting 442 at home and 433 away could be the default, need to be more solid away.

For the 3 forwards, could be Doyle up front he looks the natural for that, with a winger one side and AJ/Maiga the other, with Barton+Niko+Carroll behind them.

                            Thats all purely guesswork though.

Be great to try to find some way to combine the keep ball possession of earlier in the season with the blood pumping attacking directness of yesterday.

We've hardly played 442 at all. The 2,473 threads about 1 upfront shows you that.
