Let's be clear that losing Austin at the last minute could not be planned for either long or short term.in bringing in Doyle he has addressed the hold up player who will hopefully score a few too .He will like Charlie run all day but not hit the net as often. However he is a thinking footballer and may on yesterday's evidence bring the other front player and willing midfielders into the game more than Charlie did.Where I agree we didn't do the business was in bringing in the other striker to help Charlie all that we have brought in do not immediately seem to fit what was required. Yesterday showed what a twin strike force should look like but who would have thought that outside of Burnley especially at the start of the season. We may now be forced to play two up front more often and Johnson fitness allowing should prosper for that. Losing an improving Phillips will also not help.
We have issues now at right back yesterday showed that and we were aware of that too is Hughes the answer going forward only time will tell but it cost us yesterday and who will cover for Barton when he is inevitably suspended fro where I view no one and they knew that and didn't address that either. In my view both short and long term planning may have just suffered a massive setback
No one pulls my strings 😉

Just so you finally get it. Long term team development means bringing dev / academy players through into the first team and blend according to taste with some of the old lags. The idea is to obviate crisis management.

which will be the next crisis. I'd see us stay down at this level and build for a future some way down the line. Harry would not be my choice of manager for that job.

        edit:

Disagree, I would have banked on losing him at some stage because that is football. He could have been out sooner and for longer. Planning for such contingencies is the difference between success and failiure. This was often seen as Wenger's blind spot, but at least he was obsessed with long term development.

really hope so. But it isn't down to training facilities or new stadia, it's down to a football mindset by which I mean getting youngsters confident on the ball, a lot of damage is done at school and youth level....

I'll tell you who I really blame (for the state of the world): Trevor Brooking. I hate him even more than Hughes ;). This was the man charged with sorting out England's development hell, never mind the R's. Over the years he has failed utterly and comprehensively, I still see kids belting it up the park down the scrubs, I don't see much evidence of introducing the Brazilian system (not the landing strip) and you still get 11 vs 11 at an age when they should be learning to love the ball not leather the fvcker. I just want my club and country to play football. That's it.

i'd never though about brooking but there seems no doubt that England has fallen behind

as far as qpr development is concerned, I think you cant really prepare for the prem when you are in the league below
