What an utter **** up. Take it back a while to when Jordan Rhodes was ready to leave Huddersfield and we were desperate (as per usual) for a striker. We passed on that well flagged opportunity, and the blinding pace and stunning goal ratios of Johnson and Zamora were not enough to save us....
We get relegated, plan for the investment of a new stadium and loan the two squad players most likely to get us Championship goals: AT (whose goals from midfield got us up last time and is proven at this level) and Remy, on grounds of financial expediency. For short sighted contractual reasons, we are unable (and AT's case, unwilling) to re-call them. Meanwhile plans for Tracy Island continue.
Having vowed not to go on our usual last minute supermarket trolly dash, HR does just that. He brings in Kevin Doyle FFS, thats right Kevin Doyle whose goal ratio is utterly abysmal. He brings in Maiga whose goal ratio is abysmal. Delatorre looks like a massive gamble (another poor goal ratio) and Will Keane, jury out but the only one of the newcomers worth a light frankly. Not only have we got a massive problem scoring, we have a problem creating, which is why we should have done anything to keep our most creative player. Even Neal Warnock, bless, understood what a weapon AT was at champ level.
When HR was appointed - and I would still take him over Hughes, at least it's more of a laugh - a few of us posted lists of young, forward thinking managers who might just give us a football club in a couple of years. The only brit based manager was Martinez, who I've always rated as top drawer. But TF and the board had about as much of a clue of where football was headed and long term planning as I have of brain surgery. We are in a massive false position and if by some miracle we go up, we're going to have to start building a new team all over again because no one in their right mind thinks for a second that this lot would do anything but come straight back down again.
Can anyone explain WTF is going on? I've been watching the Rs for 50 years but I struggle to recall such a crazy use of resources, it's just been a merry go round under TF. There is zero evidence of long term planning, and I'm talking about building a team of young footballers here. That is where you lay the foundations of a new stadium.
