Why did we wait till deadline day to ask?

      More desperation.

Harry has been trying to get Defoe since the beginning of January. Also nobody knows how long Austin is out for. The doctor said a prolonged period, not sure what that means.

put it like this, if there was dislocation and ligament damage it will still be a bit sore in 10 years....not sure how long it will stop him playing though

Only permanent, as of the end of February. Until then, he's at 'Spurs. And we're not exactly striker-heavy!

The 28 days would have been and gone before we knew it.
As others have said, we needed a proven goalscorer until at least the end of the season.

Still wouldn't have turned Defoe away for a month!

I wonder if Spurs alleged interst in Berbatov and him then going to Monaco had an impact on our chances of getting Defoe. Sounds asthough if West Ham had got the greek striker they may have let Diame leave to recoup some of the 12million. Guess it's how these windows go 1 deal triggers another and if it falls through you move on to you next target or scramble around at the last min in some cases

Defoe for 28 days - covers Burnley, Derby and Reading games = sheer genius of a move and explains why it was done now rather than earlier to cover games we should have (and did win). We were looking to join him in even before the Austin disaster - but boy would it have softened the blow a little for those crucial fixtures??

Defoe to Toronto still amazes me!!
A player that will always score goals but is leaving England to play in a cr*p league.
We should have bung Toronto a few extra bob to pay extra for Defoe but they had to loan him to us rather than back to Spurs.

As a Toronto FC fan as well I would have preferred to see him playing until his arrival in Canada and he really could have helped us in this crucial stretch of matches!
