  • Strikers! Who and how many?

We received the news we all dreaded earlier tonight regarding Charlie. Personally I think the club has made a massive mistake in announcing his injury, we could possibly be held to ransom by clubs and this could really haunt us tomorrow!

Anyway, who would you target to fill the void?

I think we need to bring in 3 strikers as I doubt Charlie will kick a ball again this season.

    Target 1: Jordan Rhodes

Blackburn are in financial trouble and need the money. Rhodes would jump at the chance of a better contract and moving to a club that has big future plans and give him a realistic chance of playing Premiership football next season. We need a goalscorer. The problem? Price! I think £8m will be accepted, simple as that. It's a hell of a lot of money for us to spend but it will replace Charlie's goals, something that needs to be done. It's a no brainer in my opinion, similar to Remy and Samba last January. If we don't go up then Rhodes and Austin next season will win us the league single handedly. However, I believe, if we sign Rhodes then we go up. Rhodes will cut it in the Premiership, I'm sure about that but if not, we'll have plenty of takers at the £8m fee we paid come next season.

    Target 2: Darren Bent

I doubt Bent will ever play for Villa again, he's on a big contract with 18 months to run. He's currently on loan at Fulham, where he hasn't played much and Fulham are trying to sign a Greek striker for £12m which would throw Bent even further down the pecking order. West Ham are trying to hijack that deal though but that shouldn't matter if we move quickly. I'm not sure of the relationship between Bent and Harry though from their Tottenham days but the lad scores goals. Another reason being Villa and Fulham are relegation rivals and I'm sure Villa would rather Bent be playing for us than Fulham and possibly helping them to stay up. How much? £3m maximum for me.

    Target 3: Danny Graham

I'd also throw in a cheeky bid for Danny Graham at Sunderland, £2m would probably do it. Boro and Forest want him on loan but I'd imagine Sunderland would snap our hands off to take him permanently. He's having a terrible spell at the moment in front of goal but he ripped this league apart at Watford and also had a good season in the Premiership with Swansea, so it's purely a confidence thing and I believe he will get that back instantly at Championship level.

We've signed Dellatorre tonight, so two out the three above would do me. Other options could be:

Becchio (Norwich), Wickham (Sunderland), Le Fondre (Reading), Ulloa (Brighton), Deeney (Watford), Kane (Spurs), Cisse (Newcastle), Crouch (Stoke), Griffiths (Wolves).

I think it'll be a busy day tomorrow, well I hope so!

Number 1 target has to be Rhodes. If that's not possible then Wickham

My heart says Jordan Rhodes from the above but my head says none of the above. I can't begin to describe how I think this is all going to go pear shaped! Hope I am wrong of course.

Papers saying Ipswich after Wickham. Fulham apparently keen to off-load Roaledga (spelling?) was good a couple of years ago, kind of under-the radar deal I cd see coming off. Bent's not coming to the Championship, lets be realistic, and Tony not paying £8m this window. Time to lower the expectations lads!

Apart from Rhodes none of the others suggested are no where near Charlie's level for goals and work rate. So that's why I'm saying Rhodes.

If he doesnt, he will be watching us play the same teams all over again next season and with 100 million quid less in the old bank account. Would 'fact' that, but i cant but i will come season end.

It wouldn't surprise me if dellatore is the only striker in though with the PR team trying to pass him off as some major signing tomorrow.

Agreed but in my opinion they're the most realistic and best targets out there. Agree with Stainrod, it's asking a lot of Tony to fork out £8m and also Bent is highly unlikely to drop to the Championship, however it would be a good move for him so who knows.

Not yet. Boro and Forest interested and Boro in pole position according to sky.

Cant see Palace loaning him out so soon after investing so much in him.
