And its also human nature if you are not keen on a player to never allow yourself to acknowledge a good performance. The papers, the club themselves, a good few on here and twitter all made him m.o.m.
Yet another few on here said he was shite. Mmmmmmm.

It wasn't a good performance, he has had 2 good matches since being here and although i don't rate him i acknowledge those. He was not in my top-3 for MOM on Tues, Charlie, Matty, Green all had much better games IMO

i said he was a promising player. i didn't say i wasn't keen on him. just suggested where i thought he could improve. on the plus side i think he puts in a decent shift.

i thought austin was mom on tuesday because i) he scored ii) he showed a lot of heart playing through the pain.

So you want him to do the simple things, but not the tippy-tappy exchanges with other players?

I thought he had a good game from watching it, I mentioned it on the night. The stats seem to back me up. I haven't formed my opinion on the stats after the fact.

I don't necessarily disagree about Austin. He had a good game too, as did Phillips and Green.

the simple things like not losing posession and taking a touch if there is no simple one-touch pass

Wasnt aiming it at you. Was just summarising. Im the same with hoilett, if he scored a hatrick in the cup final against man city i would still say he only had an ok game.

Like Dazzer up there with his 'always passes sideways' comment despite there being a video of him not doing that at the TOTP

If his Twitter army of idiot fanboys was going to rig votes why choose a cold January night against Bolton to do it ffs
Brilliant Deeps. My favourite was Always Sideways Rarely Forwards, that sentence is only possible on here

guess i'm being unclear, let me try again... in the flow of a move carroll seems either to be easily pushed off the ball or attempt an over ambitious pass that doesn't come off... that's my impression.

your quoting stats to say his pass completion is higher than everyone else's doesn't alter my impression on that, because a lot of those passes were of the tippy tappy kind, under no pressure etc.

                  do you get it now?

I think some people are a bit 'over-keen' on him. I think there may be a few posters who like watching his boyish looks running around in shorts, reckon they are the sort to go watch the under-14's matches even though they don;t have kids.

I get what you're saying and I disagree.

I'm not saying he couldn't do with a bit of extra bulk, but he is well worth a starting place alongside Barton at the moment on his merits.

i'm not trying to change your mind. if you check my first post i said i think he's a 'promising' player, which isn't taking a pop at him - actually a compliment. i just suggested where i thought he could improve. in a few years he will probably be a really good prem player. unfortunately it will probably be for spurs.

There's no right or wrong way to play football, a winning way is good , but there are different styles of play as there are different styles of players. Some like a more pacey direct style some like a more patient build up. He reminds me of a young Ray Wilkins ( not there yet) or a Carrick type of midfielder, it doesn't always go forward and that seems to infuriate some fans, as it did with Wilkins who was nicknamed the crab ( for always moving sideways) i like the lad i like that style of football played on the ground and i like a slower build up. But i understand fans getting frustrated , fans that like that quicker more direct style, what i cant understand are our own fans just waiting for the first missed place pass, or a sideways pass just to have a real venomous go at the young man, really i swear some just go there to have a pop at Carroll, they dont watch the game because everyone gives the ball away but as soon as he does he gets dogs abuse , he has the potential to be a very good player, i think he deserves our support while he is with us.
