Hes comfortable on the ball, tracks back all the time, always tries to olay the simple ball and doesnt play anyone into pressure, and makes more room for niko and aj to feed chaz by staying deep.

Remember that and I may be in the minority here but I like to see that from a player I think its professional!!! take the player out, kill the game, take your medicine and get 11 men behind the ball again so fair play to him for that. Last season teams ran through us without us putting a glove on them so its good to see we now have added the dirty part to our game

        Appreciate your view.
I think he has too limited variation of passes, haven't got the ability to change direction of the game, hardly ever make long passes, clever or surprising ones, plays too often sideways or backwards (lack of self confidence?). Yesterday he gave away about 10 simple pass. He also passes into crowded areas, can't create space for other players.
Just my opinion and I'm still patient because he is young and has time to develop.

Think he missed Barton yesterday and he did take one for the team

No point blowing smoke up his a rse and telling him he's amazing when in fact he has been quite the opposite; he will become a letter player with people being honest and telling him where he is coming up short so he can focus on improving those areas

Yesterdays lesson was always be on your toes and take a picture of what is around you so you don't get caught out
Happens every time he plays so it wouldn't appear to be a lesson he finds easy to learn. Although in fairness, he is far from alone in making that particular mistake.

I appreciate he is young and needs time to improve, but I'm of the opinion that if we must play a youngster who needs time to learn, for us to be patient with and to improve their game whilst doing so, it would be much better if it were one of our own players. Persisting with Carroll will no doubt give him the experience and make him a better player, while our own young talent are playing meaningless EDS games, not getting the opportunity and not improving as they otherwise could.

When he passes he's always making himself available for the return, don't see any of our other players consistently doing that.

Thought he did ok. Got to take into account the simple fact that CM was outnumbered 3 to 2. If you get into a scrap when you are outnumbered then you often get your *** kicked. It is the flip side of 442, extra striker is the plus, outnumbered in the middle is the minus. Last time the team played 442 vs Blackburn Barton looked poor, not a dig at him just that any CM looks worse when the other side got an extra man.

I dont think 442 is the strongest formation for the players available. Not just cos of CM but cos of the trade off, is AJ or Zamora contributing enough to make it a good deal to lose in the middle of the park? No is the answer, not this season anyway. Strange that the strikers that would most fit in a 442, Crouch/Cole to partner Charlie, get no support on here. There would be lots more goals if the wingers didnt shoot like Ray Charles...

Who from our EDS side would you suggest could fill in this central midfield role?

Absolutely no idea to be honest with you, mainly because we never see the youngsters given a chance. The point I was making was that I think it's perfectly OK to bring players in on loan and start them ahead of our own, if they are better. However, I would not then expect to have people defending them because they are young, inexperienced and need babysitting. Carroll was at fault for their goal, no question about it. As the thread title suggests, if Charlie hadn't scored our second, young Tom would have been getting slaughtered. He needs to wake up pretty sharpish and keep his concentration.
