Middle aged men download links from WARB to see who we have signed.

All these threads saying "I hope we sign Rhodes", "Nah, he isn't good enough, I wants Saurez" etc builds people up into a complete frenzy. And that's before we have people reading significance into betting odds which are about as a reliable a guide as asking Fat Beth in Godfrey's the Bakers of Hornchurch.

This expectation is fueled by the last couple of transfer windows when we have signed half a team. Not that it led to success but some fans are now more excited by the prospect of a transfer than in a win on the field.

I'm just a wee bit worried about the mental state of some folk on here come transfer deadline night.

Expectations have gone crazy - someone the other day was furious that we were apparently in for Danny Graham (we weren't, but it passed a few hours...), a player we would have loved a couple of years ago when we were actually a Premiership side.

So for the sake of health and happiness can I please suggest you imagine that our only buy this window will be Nicky Maynard or a kid like Harry Kane on loan - then if by some chance it goes better, no one will be disappointed.

And before you post a "Just sort it out Tony FFS" thread - perhaps he feels Harry already has by far the most expensive squad in the division. Of course we need another striker but maybe he has told Harry he has to sell some of the expensive deadwood first. Sure, it will be hard on those wages but you could hardly blame Tony for not wanting to carry on being Father Christmas all year round. Just a thought...

Couldn't agree more. Spot on. Whatever additions we might get in this window, if we get any will have to gel with the remainder of the squad. Still think there mightbe a pleasant surprise before the end of the window though.

Expectations have been raised by the club not the fans, last few windows we signed Green, Brazil's number 1 GK, a few champions league players, Remy, Austin etc etc....admittedly we were rubbish but with the type of signings and the club building a mini city to accommodate our stadium...who says Santa don't exist for WATRB posters.
Keep believing ladies and gents, and Facto nasty OPer didn't mean those nasty things about Godfreys.

I agree that previous transfer windows have likely fuelled the fire, but the major contributors are the media and the bookies for me. Too many people reading what is printed and taking it in IMO. Lost count of the number of players we have been linked with and there seems to be no substance behind at least 90% of them. Some journos should be lynched for some of the speculative carp they print but more fool the people that believe it I suppose.

Sounds like you're undergoing the same therapy and me. The loose cannons will be all over this site come 3pm. Avoid like the plague is my advice. Sanity won't be restored until circ 6pm.

I barely have read a thread in the past 2 years discussing transfers sometimes I have to respond to the odd window licker because temptation is too much but generally I can't see the point in discussing players until official bids are lodged.

Not worth getting excited until officially signed. How many times have we bid for players for the deal to fall through?

That's the knock on effect of throwing money about like summer 2012.

We are then reported to have bid for any player available,even though we probably ain't,just maybe inquired about availability/price etc..
