Support of one's club can mean so much more than a hobby/recreation. It can mean attachment to an ongoing sense of biography and sense of belonging...intangible but nevertheless real...love in other words.

the vital word in all that is "can".

people "LOVE" their wives, kids, parents etc......loving a football team diminishes the meaning of love of the aforementioned ....imo.

Bill mate this honestly isn't a dig, but maybe you should just try calming down a bit, stop being so confrontational and then people might start taking you a bit more seriously. Its all good having a view and an opinion but its how you go about when people disagree with you. Your very upfront and aggressive.
Like I said pal I'm not having a dig.

So if your son played for any sports team you would not love to see them win?

Not at all. Love is a relative concept and not definable by relation to any objective constants or paradigms. Love can only be understood by the individual experiencing it.
