  • Full backs- a major issue?

I think we can all safely say that Borrowdale is not good enough for us. He has no pace, can't tackle and is very poor in the air. Ramage who is certainly better is definitely not the greatest. So why did we not sign proper full backs in the summer?

Magilton seems intent in playing players out of position to just accomodate them. E.g. Leighterwood on Saturday who I thought was pretty poor. I expect he will start again tomorrow.

I'm not gonna bang on about the striker problem because the powers at be just don't seem to realise or want to spend money. They'd rather splash the money on a long contract for an unheard of journeyman Italain. But surely in the summer we could have brought in specialist full backs!

This season I am afraid is going to end in mid table again.

    - no balance in the side

    - players playing out of position

    - no one to score regularly

    - no one to lead the line

    - no leader in the side

    - very short of ideas

-captain who is always injured and not sure of his place in the side

    - too many loan signings in the team

    - Magilton is very short of ideas

    - attendances are dropping and will only get worse

    - atmosphere is dreadful

    - the cost to watch Rangers is far too expensive for what we are being served

    - people are just not enjoying coming to games these days

    - problems that should have been addressed in the summer have still yet to be resolved
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

Magilton reckons he has watched lots of our games from last season. Was it not bleeding obvious?

We need a right and left back plus 2 proper centre forwards!

Until we address our goalscoring problem, full backs is not a major issue for me. It might be different if we were getting tanked every week, but we're not. Only seeming to be able to score only once in a game, and usually from someone not playing up front, that to my mind is a major problem.

          Hammersmith r;s you contradict yourself.

you question the defence, shirley thats not an issue? I had no problems with that between Jan-May, in fact we were too defensive.

its trying to walk the ball, in the opposing net is my worry.

We know the striker problem is our biggest issue but the club only sold our best centre forward when we had a sniff at the play offs last season and replaced him with someone who is not better, who is terribly slow and has spent his time in the lower leagues in Italy.

Come on Pete, even you can realise that!

There must be a reason why our owners didn't want to spen big money on a pair of top strikers. Even they must get bored senseless of the sh1t they are watching every week. And don't say you are enjoying every Saturday. We see it every week and it is total dross.

Ramage & Connolly at RB & LB are good enough to be in a prmotion winning team in this division in those positions.

The problem has been 2 things on the pitch

A creative, box to box midfielder, who can pass, tackle and lead we now have that in Ben Watson.

A striker who can score 25-30 goals a season or 2 strikers who can do the same job.

full backs are not our biggest worry at the moment, theres plenty of other crucial elements to worry about!

I know Borrowdale and ramage are not everyones cup of tea, but they will do for now.

Full backs are both poor, and our frontline is not strong enough. You know you are struggling when you are relying on an unproven loan signing to score the goals to put you up.

OK then, the difference between last season's defence and this season is NOT Borrowdale; it is the loss of the proper protective defensive midfielder.

Pete, did you ever stop to think that Sousa got the defence spot on because he gave protection to the defence and that the flapper in goal looked better because he had that protection?

Yes, it was defensive, but it made our back four look better than they are.

I guess if you have 2 sitting midfielders, you are not going to concede.

Not sure, we have played with the same back 4 this season for more than 2 matches?

that is such nonsense pete, there is so much rewriting of history going on here, Sousa played a diamond to start with then 4-1-4-1 formation with Jordi Lopez in the latter stages being the holding player Cook on one wing Routledge on the other Ephraim though the middle the midfields had a more attacking set up than under Dowie our problem was not even that we did not create good chances, we did we just could not bloody score and were useless upfront blackstock included

Pete we played with a back 5 last season, its a back four this season, remember Mahon.

I thought fourlin was brought in as the midfield ancher, to replace Mahon.
