Tried to have some thinking time after yesterday before posting but really am becoming slightly worried. Our wage bill means we need to get promoted this season and the play offs are a bit of a lottery where a poor referee decision or bit of bad luck can cost you a seasons work.
I will confess to never having been a Redknapp fan and am not suggesting he be sacked but our stats since Mckaren left are a concern and some would say more than a coincidence. Saw somewhere its something like 1 loss and a couple of draws in 10 or 11 games with Mclaren and 5 losses and 5 draws out of 16 since he has left.
Not sure the change to 4-4-2 is the problem more to do with our our lack of drive from midfield and fact our full backs rarely provide anything attacking wise.
BAE simply doesn't look interested and I would suggest the fact many are saying he was a real attacking threat at Spurs, yet isn't for us is more to do with his attitude than any instructions. Simpson is very poor going forward and nearly always turns inside or plays it back rather than crossing the ball, only in desperate times such as second half v Doncaster did he actually resort to crossing it and then we looked dangerous and eventually scored.
Midfield has no one who can drive with the ball and whilst possession is important we are too easy to defend against and rarely put the opposition under any sort of consistent pressure. The fact our back four sits so deep doesn't help and at least now Nedhum is back we can hopefully play a higher line allowing us to support the strikers a little quicker.
Anyway back to Redknapp not really sure he knows how to change it, never seems to pick a balanced midfield and if he does want to play one up front then at least play either Kranjear or Benny off the striker, two defensive midfield players and two out and out wingers. That way we play more of a 4-2-3-1 and can support the striker better.
Please realise that neither kranjear or Oneill is a wide player, yet he has played them there so many times without success and surely he can see that Henry offers little to the team. He has replaced Mckaren with Downs who is meant to be a defensive coach but we look less secure than before. So come on Harry sort it out or get a coach in that can change things, Phelan or the like there is no shame in needing help!
