Agree he is the most realistic of the slightly unrealistic possible signings, if you get my drift...

Wd be a statement of intent and would be able to make the step up. We were all set to sign him before he went to Everton if memory serves me and there was talk about how he was going to be on 50k a week. Wd presumably have to moderate those expectations now if Long is "only" on about 15,000 a week. Makes you realise how we paid ridiculously over the odds in wages for certain players during our Prem stint.

Good to hear. Well if he can pass a medical (not that this has stopped us in the past...) then great.Just doesn't seem a very Harry signing to me, but happy to be proved wrong.

Oh I don't know Wells is a bit like Defoe.

to true mate, we got a shyte load of "prem class" midfielders and all they can be bothered to do is pass it 5yards sideways. (benhynon and henry) farking joke.

we should be looking for more young stars who hav some farking hunger (like philips and austin)

just dont buy this need for experience bollx. look at southampton swansea brighton and the like.

there are good young players out there but harry needs to show some balls. am sure tony would sanction moves for the likes of murrey, bridcutt and wells as tony has been harping on about the future and those players fit the bill nicley .

Pal I wasn't having a pop at you, I was simply making the point that IMO he would probably make absolutely no difference what so ever.

And like you said we have to be realistic as to who will come here. I think it would be worth spending a lot on a decent striker or get a young striker in who's got a hunger to play and score goals.

Assuming this is true, not doubting the poster but the agent, then what an old classic, playing one club off against another. I wonder why!!!

So there is some negotiations with him then?

He shouldn't cost as much as we normally pay, this would be like a chance card.

No worries mate. Just to warn you Harry doesn't seem to agree with you:

In Harry language that means "we have tapped him up, we have arranged for the money to be paid via a springer spaniel in Monaco and he should be free to start against Everton."

What do fans think? I know no one will be doing cartwheels of excitement but my take is that this is a realistic signing to help get us promoted and no more. From memory he has a decent strike rate in this division and has now more or less proved his fitness. Yes I too would much prefer Long, Defoe or Jelavic but lets be realistic - we are in the Championship. When we were in the Prem we would occasionally see Championship fans getting over-excited about the prospect of them signing some major star, and we just laughed - because we realised it was a pipe dream. When its our own club we forget that and think everyone is desperate to play for the Hoops. They just aren't. Even Hull is a better prospect for Long because its six more months in the Prem, and he knows that if Hull go down some other low-ranking Prem club will come in for him.

As for Rhodes, just can't see Tony splashing ten million quid - he has had his fingers burned already and isn't going to spend that (imo of course) on a player who has never proved himself in the Prem.

Not saying any of this to be negative. I just fear there are going to be a lot of unhappy bunnies on here come the end of Jan. For some fans no one is ever good enough - loads were even turning their noses up at Adeybyour when he was linked - now he he has scored something like four in five games, two against Man U, and is first choice for Spurs! Realism needed folks.
