  • Live 3pm Kick Offs on the box

When did the rules change about live games being shown on the Box in the UK when prem games are going on. I thought this was banned hence why the boozers show the games via stream but there was a live game on boxing day and another live one today on BT Sport

Maybe it's just Saturday 3pm games?

No live football (from any country) is allowed to be broadcast between (I think!) 2:45 and 5:15 on Saturdays.

I thought the reason for that was so not to stop fans going to games by watching it on the box so what the difference for non Saturdays??

The rule doesn't make sense to me to be honest. English football has become international these days and real fans will still want the matchday experience regardless if the game is televised or not. Just televise them all as far as I'm concerned.

I think they're only showing the 3pm games because it's a bank holiday and the rules don't apply, perhaps.

I've always thought they should follow the american approach by blacking out games from tv which haven't sold out and if they have sold out then stick them on the box. Surely they would make a killing on advertising revenue by showing the 3pm games, who knows.

The rules only apply to 3pm games on Saturday's but it is the first time a british broadcaster has shown a 3pm kick off (boxing day). However other leagues abroad show every game live on their national stations. "Barclays Premier League matches are not televised in the UK between the hours of 3pm and 5pm on a Saturday primarily in order to protect match attendances and atmosphere."
