  • Does anyone out there...

....think there is the remotest chance we will sign Defoe?

I read in The Mail this morning, that Toronto hope to make a formal announcement at the end of next week that he has signed for them, yet Earnshaw is unhappy after being out there for nine months and wants to return home.I still think Defoe could turn our season around as he is very creative as well as being a prolific goalscorer who would really flourish in the Championship.

No. He is a creature of habit and likes the Spurs bench.

I think he still has too much to offer to go to the MLS just yet. if a lower-end prem club dont come in for him (which there dont seem to be any talk of) cant see why we couldnt sign him. we can pay him, we're still in a good position for promotion, and plus he obviously has a good relationship with harry

Depends if we are willing to offer more wages than Toronto.

99 out of 100 players take the cash these days.

Despite what people think of him, I think he is one of the most underestimated player's in the premiership and England's best striker.

And in IMHO there is no way he would come here.
            SIR LESLIE FERDINAND!!

Maybe Harry can sort out a brown envelope as a sweetener.

Not a hope. We loaned a top class and prolific goal scorer to the barcodes for what I assume were financial reasons. A 100k plus a week signing now ain't gonna happen.

If Defoe goes to Toronto then he ain't bothered about going to the World Cup

No that was contractual. Remy would never ever set foot into the championship and ruin his career/life. Nothing to do with money, we owned him and could of easily payed him, like we are doing for ceaser.

....... though the thread was going to read 'play up front'. Well, none of us could be worse. Including you Gee.

I aalways assumed that a clause like that must have been in place as part of the package we put together to bring him here. Lots of money, lots of assurances about what would happen if it went pear-shaped.

It was either that or Tony's FIFA skills that secured his signature

Yeah, I wasn't too sure why we loaned him out. Thought it was financial, but as you say, contractual. I'm still not convinced the purse strings are gonna stretch to the demands of someone like Defoe. Would be nice though, he'd tear this league a new one.

The only thing he'd be tearing, is is hair out. Soon get fed up of overhit passes or finding 8 defenders and midfielders in front of him by the time we give him the ball.
