  • Long-term success

Harry will get us up this season, probably as champions or second place, but I don't think he's the man to take us forward in the future. Harry's success is based on spending huge sums of money on experienced players he's worked with before, but what happens when they all eventually retire?

We need a manager that knows how to build a team for the long-term with promising young players. If not, then do what swansea have done, decide on a playing style that'll be used for years to come (in swansea's case, good attractive football), employ a manager who plays this style and if he needs to be replaced in future, replace him with a manager who plays a similar style. The new manager won't have to buy many new players as the previous manager would have already bought a suitable squad with the right players at his disposal. Would save the club from buying about 10 players every single transfer window due to different managers having different styles/philosophies! This is stopping us progressing as a club imo.

Just my opinion on what should be done, even if we don't go up this season. We need to start thinking long-term.

Good post mate. I totally agree that Harry is not the man to manage us If we go up. He has ran out of ideas. We need a young manager with ideas next season anyway whether we go up or don't. Harry should retire.

I think there are two takes on this. Many say that this will be Harrys last job so if that is the case TF and board need to tell Harry what they want from him i.e. start to change the make up of the team so it has a blend of both youth and experience it could be his chance to leave a dynasty if he bought into it

All this Harry doesn't give the youngsters a go and only buys experience isn't all together true. Ok he is a master in the transfer market i agree and he has with us bought players he knows well, but after last season and the lifeless/spineless/dross he inherited can you blame him?
Anyway my point was youngsters, how about these names Ferdinand, Carrick, Cole, Defoe and Lampard all brought through at West Ham by Harry. Was it not Harry that signed Kyles Walker and Naughton for Spurs?

^^that was when West Ham had arguably the best academy in the country. no manager would've left those players on the bench. walker is a liability at best and naughton should be playing for Yeovil or someone. but anyway, past successes & failures shouldn;t be the meausre of redknapps achievements here...

ever since promotion we've been chasing these big names rather than building our squad slowly and developing our players, and it doesn;t look like we've learnt from our mistakes

i reckon we'll still get promotion but if we do we'll need another COMPLETE REHAUL as we've only got a handful of players good enough for the premiership at the moment

That's all down to Tony and his backers. The prem money is more important to them. If we go up we only have three other teams to beat, with a better manager than previous.

I am not sure why you thibnk QPR will be promoted this season given that they are struggling for goals and have picked up 16 points from the last 36.

They got off to a good start but in truth were often lucky to get some of those 1-0 wins (Ipswich, Leeds, Bolton, Yeovil). They have now been found out as a very limited team who keep the ball well but without a cutting edge.

Unless there is a change in formation/tactics and or new signings, QPR will struggle to even get in the play offs. I think there 9teams that will challenge for promotion and the play-offs.

Wigan, now out of the Europa League will push on under Rosler and will challenge for the top 2 along with Leciester, Derby and Forest.

I also expect Burnley and Ipswich to be in and around the top 6 along with QPR, Leeds & Reading to also improve.

Other teams like Bolton, Middlesboro, Blackburn and Birmingham could also mount a challenge with a strong 2nd half to the season.

Agree. And on current form we are asking for trouble.

Are we still favourites to go up? I dont know but i reckon we are. We will go up, people need to stop worrrying. We are going through a minor blip with our main goalscorer injured, and are still only one point off second. Stop moaning till we are out the top six i say, and that will not happen im so so certain.

Cos im challenging someone saying 'why do you think we will go up' when we are doing fine, makes me worried about our chances? No mate, no no no no no. Im challenging him cos its a mad statement to say when we are still in prime position and our striker will be back for the next game and we have a window tomorrow and a board with billions. Mad statement.

So i name a load of youngsters harry has brought through and you come back with no manager would have ignored them, and then embarrass yourself with the Kyle Walker commment.
Judging him on his achievements here should start from the jan transfer window, so that's bringing Remy, Samba, Townsend,Jenas to the club, and then this season clearing out uninterested
players and us sitting 4th at the halfway stage.........not bad is it
