  • Loftus Rd v New Stadium Atmosphere

As it has been the rest of the season and preceding years the atmosphere yesterday was akin to a morgue

Top of the table clash where if we lose the chances are we will fall from top spot and had we won we have the chance of opening up a six point gap but the crowd were non existent

Its always said that Loftus Rd is a great atmosphere especially under the lights but lets be honest its not other then a few games first season back in the prem and Oldham in the play off semi how many other times has the place buzzed in recent memory???

We have had arguments put up against moving ground as we will end up in a soulless ground with no atmosphere well we currently playing in a soulless ground with no atmosphere.

Players always say the crowd can be the difference between losing and winning and this season looks like it could be closer then we all had hoped so instead of pointing fingers at players etc lets take a look at ourselves and ask if we can do more at home to get the place humming and gee the players up and intimidate the opposition

Unfortunately those who use the soulless stadium argument as a reason not to move the argument does not hold water as that's what we have now

Couldn't agree more, haven't witnessed an atmosphere there for a long time. Chelsea at home and the Oldham game...

Wasn't there yesterday, had it on the radio sounded like the squirrel got the ground rocking , but if true you are right that takes away my only argument against the 40k stadium .........

I HEREBY RESIGN FROM THE GANG OF FOUR !
"Steve, do you think 25k is a good option when there are indications that within four years, new stadiums on average have increased attendances of 60%?
For us that would mean around 29k."

You have hit the nail on the head NW the loudest chants yesterday were about a bleeding squirrel on the pitch that kind of sums it up

Atmosphere is turd now in 18k and will be turd in 25k, 30k, 35k or 40k stadium and the only thing that will change that is us the fans making an atmosphere at the current time were failing dismally

i would hope any new stadium would have a single tier "kop" like home end where all the most vocal fans could sit together, rather than, the current situation, where they are slightly spread out in different sections..perhaps this might help?
other than that, generally, the crowd reacts to what is happening on the pitch...i dont think yesterday the team gave the crowd much to shout about. You might say its down to the fans to motivate the players, but its a two way street. They(the team, the fans)feed off each other, its just a case as to who gets the ball rolling(no pun intended) first

We seem to have lost our 'Neil Warnock' inspired Dunkirk spirit. Our fans were amazing under him and even the first few months under Sparky but the last couple of years it feels like no one cars or feel like we need to come together to succeed. The first year up, I remember being at Fulham chanting "6-0 down who gives a ****, we are QPR and we are staying up" and we were so much louder than the home fans wining 6-0. I don't know how we lost that feeling of comradary and went from being great fans in our first year up to being shite fans over that summer. We started booing our team 7 games into the season and stopped singing. I sit here wondering if success brings expectations with no support from the fans do I really want to see us succeed and become yet another Prem club with no atmosphere?

If F block was an average block around Loftus Road yesterday then I'm not surprised that it's dead. I was surrounded by people who could not speak English, the upper middle class, the elderly or 7 year olds out with mum for the day! Welcome to the future of football!!

The atmosphere we had going at hq was ruined by the introduction of the gold/silver/bronze sections IMO. Before that the same faces sat in the same areas and the atmosphere was decent especially around the holloway era . Changing the lower loft into a family stand was also another nail in the coffin as it dispersed the hardcore like minded support who liked a sing song . Now we have pockets of 'singers' all over the ground but not enough to get a regular atmosphere going. We need all the singers in one area and the rest will follow (as they used to ) . Hate to say it but one club who have got it right is palace with those soppy "ultras" in the holmsdale.

Nothing wrong with the atmosphere, west, that isn't wrong with the team's performance. We're not often given anything to should about other than to enjoy the fact of winning and doing well in the league...

                          Yep.

Is why I much prefer the away games these days. Blackpool was rocking last week, fantastic atmosphere.

For me 77 one drives the other. We have won most our home games this season in front of silence this season is about winning at all costs to get back up and so far we have been doing that.

And its not just this season it has been s hite im talking going back years its been dire I truly think that the great Loftus Road atmosphere is a myth because its not, we pick and choose when to turn it on we should not wait to be entertained to crank it up

If you sat in the upper tier of the away end for the last 10 years or so the song you would sing is 'its just like being in church' the sooner fans accept that the atmosphere is dead the sooner we can start doing something about it

this thread turns up every season. LR has had a poor atmosphere for most games for years. It is nothing new.

Always laughed at the "souless bowl" comments. Thy shape isn't what makes an atmosphere.
