  • O'Neil/Assou-Ekoto combination

This combination just doesn't work. Both were absolutely terrible today. Why are they so reluctant to take the opposing full-back on, get to the byline and actually get a cross into the box? I can sort of understand it with O'Neil because he isn't naturally a winger, but Assou-Ekoto should know better. Why does he cut inside and pass sideways every time? He has the pace and skill to run down the flank and supply Austin with decent balls. Same issue with Hoilett's performance against Blackburn a couple of weeks ago. What's going on?

If you combined O'Neil on the left with Roberto Carlos it wouldn't work. O'Neil hasn't a left foot and isn't an offensive player. Quote what type of player he is us beyond me.

Very lucky to stay on the pitch O'Neil. That tackle although won the ball if I remember, it was naughty.

Shame he didn't go. His ban would have helped us out.

Good engine on O'Neill & that's about it for me. Offers nothing else.

BAE went for Austin 5 mins before HT when Charlie told him to f*ck off anyone see that? BAE didn't look himself today. Knows he's off maybe foot off the boil so he doesn't get injured for his return to Spurs?

We never do that this season and it irritates me a lot.

Critisize O'neill as much as you like but first tell me what does that no necked excuse of a player Hoilet bring I can't understand what H thinks he does , when he came on Ekotta's game disappeared .
As the op says I've asked several times why Ekotta doesn't get forward more often , great player been good for us to watch but has really just cruised games for us when he has so much more to offer

Another one who should have delivered crosses.

Hoilett over O'Neill at LM every day of the week. Purely because Hoilett attacks at pace and O'Neill doesn't. Hoilett screws up alot but at least he causes problems and frees up others.
Only Hughes picking Park at LM is a worse idea at LM than O'Neill.

Didn't see anything wrong with BAE's yesterday - well within the range of a decent performance. Odd for Charlie to be griping to him about a cross, not like the wingers have been doing that is it, he should be griping to them not BAE if he wants more crosses.

ONeil gives a lot of energy and has been a regular in the good form that sees the club in the promotion places all season but I'd have started JJ there myself, hes less defensive but has more goal threat. I dont see what Hoilett conbtributes myself, goals/assists/crosses not a lot of anything really, pity that swap for Crouch last January fell through imo.

after BAE had that row with Austin he sulked, didnt attack , just passed neatly sideways , done enough but did hardly go over the half way line, thought he was out of order for that.

Cracking post. Agree with that, except for the Crouch bit, depending on the terms.

BAE is far to casual as if he thinks he is too big for this league and well...he isnt. Overrated player of the season by many on here so far imo. Clever little flicks once or twice a game then the rest of the 90 mins he saunters round giving sideways passes. You can see in his demeanor that playing football is nothing more than a job to him and one he doesnt enjoy all that much.

O'neill was good signing on a free but can't for the life of me see why he merits a position in the starting line up.
