in charge for the season.many feel that sacking YET another manager will get us nowhere and make us an even bigger laughing stock.so,despite our bad start to the season and assuming things dont improve much over the next month or so we persist with him till the end of the season, where will we finish,is there ANYONE out there still optomistic that under Mags we can get promoted or even reach the play offs, which was the aim at the start of the season.

Interesting questions Matthew.
I was discussing this with my stepson last night upon his return from Carlisle, as he noticed I was less than impressed at having yet another Saturday wasted with a combination of the usual long round trip, many hours out of the house and another poor performance.
He is only 22, but despite being a fanatical Brighton fan,(or maybe because he is), he is usually pretty balanced with his opinions on football. He, like what appears to be the majority of people, feels that to be looking at replacing a manager after only 6 league games is ridiculous, short sighted and probably a recipe for further disaster. One thing he did say though, which I found to be somewhat confusing, is that it is too early to judge him because despite the fact that all Rangers fans can see that he keeps playing inferior players to those possibly at his disposal, he hasn't yet had the chance to know who the best players are and in which positions.
My own opinion is that he most certainly should know by now, who should be playing and where. I think he is certainly trying to play football the "right" way, on the floor with neat passing etc., but for some reason the players cannot seem to produce, no doubt with the chopping and changing of the side playing its part.
I happen to feel along with many others that our playing squad, with the possible exceptions of West Brom, Newcastle and Boro, is the best in the division. We have some terrific quality across the squad with the exception only of the left back and striker positions. Unfortunately, JM is not making either the best use of them or is unable to motivate or organise them in such a way as to produce the desired result. Whether this is solely down to him or as is more likely, a combination of that and the lack of total commitment by the players, is hard to tell.
I do feel that we have probably had the easiest 6 opening fixtures we have had or are likely to have, which in part has caused much of the frustration that is apparent. In my opinion, with a little more sense from the manager along with a little more effort from the players, we could easily have notched up an additional 6-8 points from the games against Blackpool, Plymouth, Forest and Peterborough which would see us sitting comfortably in one of the top 4 positions. With some tough games coming up, we would certainly be in the mix even if we were to have a bad patch, as opposed to the problem we may now find ourselves in because of our failings against these poorer teams.
In answer to your question, I for one am optimistic to the extent that surely we must start to do better very soon, but unfortunately I can also see it not happening. Unless he starts picking a settled side now, I fear that this will be yet another wasted opportunity as was last season, where incidentally we were the first team who could neither go up nor down.
Finally, whilst not wishing to see anybody sacked, if it happens, he will have brought it upon himself by repeating the mistakes he made at Ipswich and would not therefore, get much sympathy from this direction.

The great Gerry Francis used to harp on about CONSISTENCY.
We can achieve this through retaining the current manager and in turn the manager must be consistent in his team selection and formation -LESS TINKERING needed. He should know his best eleven and stick with it for a few games.
