  • Crossing into the box

Glad Hoilett got a goal last night but he dont half frustrate me with his constant cutting inside instead of taking it down the line and crossing. Clearly he is right footed so would he benefit us more playing on the right wing instead? That way we would possibly get more into the box for Charlie and any midfielder running in to get on the end of.

Last night proved how effective we are once a decent cross gets into the box and I have to say AJ and Simpson both delivered great crosses for our goals.

You can see how effective Austin is with crosses. I thought his touch was great for the goal, took 2 defended completely out of the game!

Hoilett seemed to get a lot of shots blocked last night, i think teams have worked out he likes to cut inside and shoot from the edge of the box. He has a lot of skill, maybe he should mix it up a bit

I'm sure Harry plays him on the left so that he DOES cut in and shoot, similar to what he done with Townsend

Maybe, but if you have a striker who thrives on crosses, it is criminal to waste him by deploying wingers to cut inside and shoot, especially if they are not scoring frequently (something Austin does and would improve on if he had the supply).

Look at how Johnson went to towards the byline, delivered a cross and Austin scored.

I think the problem with this has been that we have been playing one upfront and dont actually have any midfield runners that like to get themseolves into the box. we wouldnt have much joy aiming at one with defenders knowing he is the only target. I dont have a problem with Hoilett playing on the left and cutting in, it gives us something different going forward. Think he has been slightly unlucky to not have scored more this season doing that.

Im not sure how people rate our wingers, but for me, i would start Hoilett and Phillips when available on both wingers, regardless of formation. With them both being right footed, we get both threats this way and they could switch wings throughout the game.
