  • So will we now be 442 on Saturday?

Will Harry now revert to 442 at home and 451 away or was last night a one off and purely a reaction to Saturday. Interestingly the BBC stats show we only had 49% possession. (When did we last have less than the opposition at home?!) and had less shots (only 4 on target!) than them!

This would be a massive about face for the management team and will result in much more open (and high scoring) games as, let's face it we were fortunate not to concede last night although we were always going to score more than Ballmouth!

Really does depend on how Blackburn like to play, they are a far better side than Bournemouth and Carroll could get over run in central midfield , can Johnson play 2 matches in a row less than 7 days apart.

It really does concern me that fans are unable to see why we successful play 4-4-2 a formation which is fast becoming a thing of the past at the highest level.

We should go back to 50's formation 2-3-5.
My old man was the star player for HMP Parkhurst during their successful and unbeaten 77/78 season.

Doesn't seem to affect Liverpool & Man Utd who traditionally play 2 up front & score more goals than the likes of others who don't. Not saying we have that calibre of player obviously but the principle is the same.

4-5-1 works well when you have wingers who score regularly & others chipping in A la Arsenal. We don't.

I'm not convinced that it really makes too much difference if we play 442 or 451.

The main thing for me is a positive approach. Happy to have a five man midfield provided that there is some creativity and pace in order that it can provide good support for Austin, rather than leaving him isolated. A midfield containing all 3 of O'Neil, Jenas and Krancjar is simply wasting everyone's time.

I think its a given we will play the same way again saturday with the same team. I also think harry only hasnt started ajncos he hasnt been properly match fit and he didnt want to break him down again, so eased him back in gently, otherwise we would of played two up top as soon as he was available.

                    This.

For me, the main difference between the Doncaster and Bournemeouth games was the way the opposition faced up to us. Bournemouth pressed us quickly when we had the ball, all over the pitch, which basically forced us to play at a higher tempo. Doncaster were quite happy to let us keep the ball and only really pressed us in the final third of the pitch. That meant that we slowly tippy-tapped it about, going sideways and backwards most of the time, because it was easier than breaking them down.

I don't think the formation has much at all to do with it. If the players put in a shift at a decent tempo and apply themselves, this squad should beat anyone at 4-4-2 or 4-5-1.

Why do people always use the example of some of the best teams in the country like it means something

Very true, last night we went back to front quicker , but surrendered some of the possession football that we have been playing, now give the ball to teams who are better more frequently and they will hurt you. Rhodes is a bigger threat up front than Bournemouth had, and Dunn if fit is still a quality midfielder along with Hanley, dont want to get over run in there i think Harry will revert back to 3 in the middle , which without the ball really means 5 if the wide men track back and do there work properly.

Did I not say the principle is the same or was that too hard to grasp?
