Lino obviously saw something as it was his flag the ref reacted to.
The Barton incident when Arber kicked out at him was right in front of him too and he saw it clearly, we all know the result had that been Barton himself, very very poor decision again and no wonder Barton was absolutely fuming at HT.
I think his conversation with the lino was something like this...

    Ref: "What happened?"
Lino: "Hand ball by the defender, he was the last man and prevented a goal scoring opportunity. Simple decision to make!"
Ref: "I hate that ***** Joey Barton, shall I just book him, punch him in the face, and then book him again and send him off for arguing with me."
Lino: "You've got to send the defender off and give the penalty. It couldn't of been any clearer."
Ref: "Ok then, so you think my bum looks big in these shorts. And there was me thinking that yellow top really suits you. It really helps to bring out the colour in your eyes. Anyway, I'll let Joey off this time then, but if he does something again I'll have him."
Lino: "What's a matter with you? It was a goal scoring opportunity, blatant handball, you've got to send the defender off and give the penalty."
Ref: "Ok, leave it with me, I'll pretend you never see it then. If I'm honest I really know what I'm doing here myself. If I maintain that approach no-one will be any wiser."

Didn't think the first one was a red as Barton purposely stepped on the guys toes (which the QPR media team have moved the camera away from) and it was hardly a kick out by the other player.

2nd was was a blatant handball which he knew what he was doing and was a def red card.

That's a very valid point on why the poor refereeing does matter.
Barton has already recieved one ban for getting five yellow cards, when he gets to ten he will get a two match ban and the booking last night takes him nearer to that total.

the ref was dreadful. not only did he not book the player for his earrlier foul on Barton, but the ho-ha over the penalty free kick was a complete joke. He didnt eben book the defender for committing the foul even though he appeared to be the last defender.

Barton's booking was correct, but he was way too lenient on the other challenges. Hoilett got clattered a few times, but it wasn't until the last one before he got subbed that a card came out.

Barton is definitely getting a rough deal from the refs, but last night he gave the official the opportunity to book him. The red mist descended and he charged around, missed one late challenge and got the next guy. Always going to be a yellow. The rest of the team got on with the game after that terrible decision, Barton should have too.

The referees seem to constantly allow challenges to go unpunished by yellow cards. About time they started dishing them out early in order that they have an effect on the rest of the game, ie the third or fourth deliberate foul gets the red. Far too often this season, we've seen players get away with five or six deliberate fouls and well into the last 30 minutes before a card comes out. The standard in this division is shocking. I would have said laughable, but there's nothing funny about them behaving like this nearly every week.

It is actually an issue at the top of the game. I have a m8 who is in refereeing and he said that the way they test people is ridiculous. Anyone who takes part and pays money to the fa to take the course will most likely get accredited and this has clearly had an effect on the standards, especially in the lower divisions. Also, the poor fitness of officials is something that seriously needs to be looked at in the FL

couldnt agree more. people using the excuse of "it'll kill the game to have a booking too earlier" etc is rubbish. So a player can through himself about for the opening 20 and then a different player flies in and gets a booking to "settle the game down". Also, i've noticed that rather than the last 10mins being a bit of a wind down refs are quite happy to dish out yellows - perhaps in the thinking of "well there's not much time left, chances are i won't need to be forced into a touch decision with a potential 2nd yellow so i'll show one now. won't affect the game, it's 3-0, noone will complain and if i don't give any card out i'll need to answer to my boss"
