Nice touch and often makes his own valuable space. Good enough tonight, but he lacks presence largely because he is so slight.

I hadn't been impressed with him so far but tonight definitely had more of an impact, maybe due to him having more space due to a less congested midfield and also having another option to pass to up front.

Very composed performance by him, can see why hes so rated now, must admit i couldnt see it when he first turned up.
Are the goals anywhere on the internet yet? Dying to see mattys goal again, how many players did he skin, four wasnt it?

Think am out of sync with everyone else but didn't think he pulled up any trees tonight. Better second half but Joey helped him out big time. Too many back passes. In his defence he kept things ticking over but no killer balls. Looks lightweight and was chasing shadows IMO for large parts. Shows as Bournemouth shaded possession even if they did nothing with it.

Very good player but man alive my 6 year old would knock him off the ball

I think thats the point, barton is arguably the best midfielder in the division, and when carroll plays with him, he seems to be more comfortable and get around the pitch better than he does with jenas or nico starting. And when barton is on song we play well imho.

Did ok against lesser opposition but wasn't really put under any pressure by the Bournemouth midfield who sat deep.

Lets see how he performs against better teams and away from home at that. Not a starter week in week out still a squad player for me.

In a man midfield he is still vulnerable IMO but has quick feet

His passing was better than Barton's tonight IMO.

Barton had one moment of absolute genius with a pass out to the right in the second half, but Carroll looked far more comfortable on the ball overall

Totally different but complementary players though. Look forward to them putting a partnership together.

This. Carroll gets through a lot of thankless graft.

Was referring to when we didn't have the ball. Joey covering yards; Carroll, who must be said was coming back from injury, didn't do. Yep, Joey giving the ball away is infuriating. He thinks he's a much better passer than he is. Joey though was our engine tonight. Yellow card curtailed him (let's acknowledge that he didnt get sent off).

Let's see what Carroll does with some more games under his belt.

I think we sometimes fail to appreciate the jobs that players are given to do, and assume they have any control on the jobs they do on the pitch. The contrasting styles I think will end up working well. I really want to see these two play together again on Saturday. The more time they get together the better. Two home games where we can play the same system won't hurt that.

Fair play to whoever chilled Barton out at half-time, whether it was Harry, Bond or Joey himself. The red mist had crept in in that first half. It's surprising that it's this far into the season before it has been an issue, he's been on the end of some heavy tackles and bad decisions and dealt with them correctly this season.

Kept his nose clean until the silly push/obstruction late on, which if the game had been tighter, the ref may not have been so lenient. He did put himself in that position though. Should we acknowledge the other 13 players for avoiding red cards too?
