London Derbies are generally tight affairs (baring 1 legendary 6-0)
We were good value for the win. Austin, Jenas, Barton, O'Neil, Johnson & even SWP (hitting the bar at the death) would have made it much more comfortable. 21 shots suggests we did try to put the game to bed.
But as above comments, it does often feel like we make a lot harder work of it than we should. 63% possession again today. I think that's telling. It seems to suggest if we have the ball, it's difficult for the opposition to score - especially if they only have the ball for a third of the game. Which is backed up with our 10 clean sheets. We're averaging around 60% possession in all our games so far.....
What surprised me most is how poor Charlton were. I've never seen a team so content to lose 1-0. They made virtually no attempt to attack with any menace, with their main aim seeming to be to go down with their head in their hands and get a free kick in our half !
In fact, MOST teams who've come to LR this season appeared to be scared of us. They think we are better than we are. The only exception really being Derby who at least gave it a go - I wonder why ? Steve Mac ?
Anyway today - BAE was VERY good, in fact brilliant at times. Barton generally good, but did give it away on 3 occasions rather needlessley, but at least they didn't cost us. Kranjcar had some special moments with passes & vision and Austin was 100% effort, worked his socks off and scored a worldie. When Adel did that, we were in heaven. So fair play to him.
Still slightly concerned about Matty Phillips, not one of his best games for us today. He seems to collect the ball at his feet with his back to goal a little too often for me. I'd prefer to see him runnnig on to through balls and attacking FB's more.
Anyway, onwards & upwards. Equal top and only 1 league defeat, so something must be right.
And some good opportunities to improve our wins & goals For column over the next couple of weeks.

This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
