Good thread this. Decent discussion of opposing views - well done all.

Just for the record, I agree with Deepcut 100%.

Thankyou, and thankyou for being honest and admitting you're basing a footballing opinion on a personal opinion

Can anyone else say that their footballing views don't involve a personal/emotional bias?

Well, I didn't actually say that. I admitted that my view may be biased by my personal opinion. But, as Deep implies, just about everyone's is, whether they realise it or not.

I actually agree with most points put forward in this thread. But while I agree that JB is playing really well, I don't think we would struggle greatly without him. We will likely find out at some point when he gets sent off or his next suspension comes around.....

What's more interesting to me about all this is how your view has gone from being in the overwhelming majority to the overwhelming minority within the space of 3 short months.

I like Joey. And I like Clint. And I'm not from Merseyside....

Personally I think fatherhood and playing abroad has engendered a genuine and maturing sea-change in Joey. So I honestly think we'll see far less of that side of him from now on. There've been plenty of incidents in games this season where he's chosen to simply not react in the face of provocation, unlike his last season here when he definitely would have done.

Possibly so. It's certainly been a remarkable change in temperament, whatever the cause.

For his sake, I hope it's something he embraces.

If he goes in January, we won't get promoted. If he had stayed last season (despite the 8 match ban) I am not sure we would have gone down (or even if we had it wouldn't have been without a fight).

Far too many 'ifs' in that statement for it to be taken seriously ...
