Were we a bit unlucky last season?

I'd agree but with the caveat that Harry (being fully aware of that) has assembled a squad to take on the Championship and will cross the PL bridge when he gets to it.

Such a dilemma though isnt it. What does he do, get us up and then change near on the whole team again, exactly what failed for us last time, and is failing for palace, norwich and sunderland this. How many of the players we have now would be deemed good enough to play week in week out in the premiership?

TBH Kevin I think it's premature to be having that debate now because there's too many unknown variables involved between now and the next transfer window:

        i.e.

        1) Which division we're in

        2) The consistency of players' form over the season

        3) Injury situation

        4) Transfer budget

        etc...

green, bae, nedum, simpson, barton, phillips and austin (with help) could deffo cut it as first teamers imho. Budget would be huge again no doubt, and we are going up (believe). So i would say at least six new signings would be needed.

You would hope so, keep the nucleus and add a bit of quality. But then you get thrashed 5-0 at home by Swansea, say, and very quickly the club - and fans - panic. The horrible thing about the Prem is because the gulf is so great you either stick with players who probably aren't good enough (and go down) or have a mass clear-out which dents morale (and go down). It is extremely difficult to bring in say six players who are sufficiently talented to turn you into a solid Prem club but not such big-time Charlies that they destroy the camaraderie of the dressing room. Yet sooner or later you do need a clear out (even Norwich has, and they were a bye-word for stability). People were giving Austin a really hard time because he barely scored in his first five or six games. Imagine the pressure if he does that in the Prem. In short we hope we are going about things much better than last time we went up but don't bet on it.
