Remarkably, Johnson believes he was to blame – to an extent – for his recent injury..
...having pushed himself to his limits in pre-season.
Having been ruled out for the majority of the previous campaign with an ACL injury, the former Crystal Palace striker didn’t miss a single training session in pre-season.
In hindsight, he believes he could and maybe should have managed his own expectations better over the summer, but he insists he has learnt lessons in terms of the way he needs to manage his body going forward:
"It was great to get a massive pre-season under my belt, but maybe that was the cause of my problem recently. When you've been out for a year you want to really hit the ground running. Maybe it was my fault, insisting on training every day, that I managed to pick up the hamstring strain. I didn't miss one training session in pre-season, or up until I was injured, so maybe I could have managed it slightly better. But the person that I am, and the enthusiasm that I have for the game, meant I wanted to be out there with the lads as much as possible. Maybe I've learnt a lesson in terms of managing my own body a bit better now and it's something I'll think about more for the rest of my career.”

on a Palace messageboard someone spouted AJ would'nt be going to them in January as a certain manager said AJ was finishedI must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most
